Urinate only after standing or sitting for a period of time?
Hello, doctor.
Ever since I started masturbating, I've noticed that I need to take some time to "prepare" before I can urinate.
Previously, it took about 5 to 10 seconds, but recently (over the past 2 to 3 weeks), this duration seems to have increased by about 5 seconds.
I suspect that there might be an issue with my masturbation technique, as I have been masturbating about 2 to 3 times a week, using a method where I stimulate until ejaculation without stopping.
Recently, I've been using a longer technique where I stop just before ejaculation, wait for the sensation to subside, and then continue stimulating (about 2 to 3 times) until I ejaculate.
This method provides a greater sexual stimulation.
However, during this time, I have experienced the aforementioned increase in the time it takes to urinate.
As long as I can urinate, I can finish normally, and I do not have symptoms like frequent urination or feeling incomplete (though I still need to shake a bit afterward).
I have already scheduled an appointment with a urologist, but I wanted to ask for other opinions first.
Thank you.

Hello: Generally, urination has a preparatory phase, but the duration can vary from person to person.
You feel that changes in masturbation techniques may affect urination; personally, I believe the impact is minimal.
It may be necessary to investigate other potential causes, such as medications or activity habits.
After consulting a physician, they will be able to provide a thorough explanation.
Wishing you good health.

Delayed urination after masturbation can be a perplexing issue, and it’s great that you’re seeking to understand the connection between your sexual activities and urinary function. While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis, I can offer some insights based on medical knowledge.
First, it’s important to recognize that the urinary and reproductive systems are closely linked anatomically and physiologically. The urethra, which is the tube through which urine exits the body, runs through the prostate gland in males and is located near the reproductive organs. This proximity means that activities involving the genital area, such as masturbation, can sometimes influence urinary function.
One possible explanation for the delayed urination you’re experiencing could be related to the pelvic floor muscles. During masturbation, these muscles are often contracted, especially as you approach orgasm. If you are engaging in prolonged or intense masturbation sessions, it’s possible that the pelvic floor muscles remain tense even after ejaculation, which could lead to a temporary delay in the ability to urinate. This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as "post-ejaculatory urinary retention," where the body takes a moment to relax the muscles involved in urination after sexual activity.
Another factor to consider is the psychological aspect. Anxiety or heightened arousal during masturbation can lead to a temporary increase in sympathetic nervous system activity, which can inhibit urination. The body may prioritize sexual function over urinary function during these moments, leading to a delay in urination.
Additionally, the technique you described—stopping just before ejaculation and then resuming—could also contribute to this issue. This method can create a heightened state of arousal, which may further engage the pelvic muscles and delay the relaxation needed for urination.
It’s also worth noting that if you have recently changed your masturbation habits, such as increasing the frequency or duration, your body may simply need time to adjust. Changes in routine can sometimes lead to temporary physiological responses.
While you mentioned that you do not experience other urinary symptoms such as frequency, urgency, or incomplete emptying, it’s still wise to consult with a urologist. They can perform a thorough evaluation to rule out any underlying conditions, such as urinary tract infections, prostate issues, or other anatomical concerns that might be contributing to your symptoms.
In the meantime, consider practicing relaxation techniques before and after masturbation. This could involve deep breathing exercises or pelvic floor relaxation techniques to help ease any tension in the muscles that may be affecting your ability to urinate promptly.
In summary, the connection between masturbation and delayed urination can be attributed to several factors, including muscle tension, psychological arousal, and changes in routine. Since you have already scheduled an appointment with a urologist, that is an excellent step toward addressing your concerns. They will be able to provide personalized advice and treatment options based on a comprehensive assessment of your situation.
