Brown discharge
Hello doctor, on September 10th, I experienced discharge with blood streaks and visited a gynecologist who prescribed medication.
Previously, I had taken antibiotics for inflammation, and the gynecologist mentioned that it might be related, but it was uncertain.
Later, the discharge with blood streaks stopped.
On September 23rd, I noticed brown blood and immediately went to see the gynecologist again.
They suggested it might also be related to the antibiotics.
An ultrasound showed no abnormalities, and I was prescribed more medication.
The doctor mentioned that the antibiotics could be causing irregular menstruation, but after taking the medication for four days, I still experience brown blood daily.
I read online that brown blood could indicate pregnancy, but we have not had any sexual intercourse, only mutual manual stimulation.
I would like to ask if this could be related to pregnancy or if it is simply the antibiotics causing the irregular menstruation?

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are likely low; it may be due to hormonal imbalance.
It is recommended to return to the obstetrics and gynecology department for an examination.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
The presence of brown discharge during pregnancy can be concerning, and it's understandable that you are seeking clarity on this issue. Based on the information provided, it appears that you have experienced some unusual discharge, including blood-tinged and brown discharge, after taking antibiotics. Your gynecologist has suggested that this could be related to the antibiotics you were prescribed, but you are also curious about the possibility of pregnancy.
First, let's address the brown discharge itself. Brown discharge often indicates old blood that is being expelled from the body. This can occur for various reasons, including hormonal changes, which are common during the menstrual cycle and can also happen during early pregnancy. In early pregnancy, some women experience spotting or light bleeding, which can be due to implantation bleeding when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. However, since you mentioned that you have not had any sexual intercourse, the likelihood of pregnancy from manual stimulation is significantly reduced, though not entirely impossible if there was any transfer of sperm.
Regarding the antibiotics, certain medications can indeed affect your menstrual cycle and cause irregular bleeding or discharge. Antibiotics can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the body, including the vaginal flora, which may lead to changes in discharge. Some antibiotics can also interact with hormonal contraceptives, potentially leading to breakthrough bleeding. However, if you were not using any form of hormonal contraception, this is less likely to be a factor.
It's important to note that while brown discharge can be harmless, it can also indicate other issues, such as infections or hormonal imbalances. Since you have already consulted with your gynecologist and had an ultrasound that showed no abnormalities, this is reassuring. However, if the brown discharge persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, fever, or a strong odor, it would be wise to follow up with your healthcare provider.
In summary, while the brown discharge could be related to the antibiotics you took, it is also essential to consider other factors, including hormonal changes and the possibility of early pregnancy. If you have any further concerns or if the discharge continues, I recommend keeping an open line of communication with your healthcare provider. They can offer personalized advice and may suggest further testing if necessary. Always prioritize your health and well-being, and don't hesitate to seek medical attention if you feel something is not right.
