Clinic Memory Medication Overdose
I'm sorry, Doctor.
This is my second time reaching out to a doctor on this website, and I truly apologize for the disturbance.
I would like to ask a few questions.
I have already started seeing a psychiatrist and taking medication, but I feel like it's not really helping.
I usually go to Lin Yu-Chung Clinic with my mother, which is quite far, but there is a clinic (Qingguang Clinic) closer to my home.
1.
Should I consider switching clinics, or should I continue with my current one? I tend to be easily influenced by others, and I often appear very cheerful and optimistic in front of people and my family.
However, I frequently find myself overthinking.
I have self-harmed in the past and have contemplated suicide, but at least I am not in that place now.
I have grown up and need to take care of my family.
Sometimes, I wake up feeling depressed without knowing why, and it can last all day.
Other times, my mood fluctuates multiple times throughout the day.
2.
What symptoms do you think I might be experiencing? Additionally, I have noticed that my memory is getting worse.
Are there any methods to improve memory?
3.
What happens if someone overdoses on antidepressants? And what are the effects of accidentally mixing them with alcohol?

Hello, whether you need to change doctors is something I cannot assess for you.
You should evaluate factors such as your compatibility with the physician and the convenience of receiving care.
However, I would like to remind you that the treatment of psychiatric disorders often requires time and patience.
Regardless of whether you decide to switch doctors, it is advisable to keep a record of any concerns regarding medication effects, side effects, or efficacy, and to discuss these thoroughly with your physician to achieve the best treatment strategy.
Deteriorating memory can be related to symptoms of the condition, nutrition, daily routines, medications, or alcohol use, and further evaluation is necessary.
Please discuss this with your doctor.
It is important to note that both medication overdose and alcohol use can impair memory, especially since you are still a minor and your brain is still developing; it is crucial to avoid these situations.
Maintaining a regular routine, engaging in moderate exercise, and having a balanced diet are important health guidelines.
The side effects of overdosing on antidepressants can vary depending on the specific medication (as there are many types of antidepressants).
Thank you for your inquiry!

It sounds like you are going through a challenging time, and I appreciate your willingness to seek help and information regarding your mental health and memory issues. Let's break down your concerns into manageable parts.
1. Changing Providers: You mentioned that you are currently seeing a psychiatrist at a clinic that is far from your home, while there is a closer option available. It is essential to feel comfortable and supported in your treatment. If you believe that the current provider is not meeting your needs or if you feel that the distance is a barrier to consistent care, it may be worth considering a change. However, before making any decisions, it might be beneficial to discuss your feelings with your current psychiatrist. They can provide insights into your treatment progress and help you evaluate whether a change is necessary.
2. Symptoms and Memory Issues: From what you described, it seems you are experiencing significant emotional fluctuations, persistent negative thoughts, and memory difficulties. These symptoms could be indicative of a mood disorder, such as depression or bipolar disorder, especially given your history of self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Memory issues can often be associated with mental health conditions, particularly when they involve anxiety or depression. Stress and emotional turmoil can impair cognitive functions, including memory and concentration.
To improve your memory, consider the following strategies:
- Routine and Structure: Establishing a daily routine can help reduce cognitive load and improve memory retention.
- Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Practices such as meditation, yoga, or deep-breathing exercises can help reduce anxiety and improve focus.
- Physical Exercise: Regular physical activity has been shown to enhance cognitive function and memory.
- Healthy Diet: A balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish), antioxidants (found in fruits and vegetables), and whole grains can support brain health.
- Sleep Hygiene: Ensure you are getting adequate sleep, as sleep is crucial for memory consolidation.
3. Medication Overdose and Alcohol Interaction: Regarding your question about antidepressant overdose, it is crucial to understand that taking more than the prescribed dose can lead to serious health complications, including increased side effects, toxicity, and potentially life-threatening conditions. Symptoms of overdose can vary depending on the specific medication but may include severe drowsiness, confusion, agitation, or even seizures.
Mixing antidepressants with alcohol can also be dangerous. Alcohol can exacerbate the side effects of these medications, leading to increased sedation, impaired judgment, and a higher risk of overdose. It can also interfere with the effectiveness of the medication, potentially worsening your symptoms. If you have consumed alcohol while on medication, it is essential to speak with your healthcare provider about your experiences and any concerns you may have.
In conclusion, your mental health is a priority, and it is crucial to seek professional guidance. If you feel that your current treatment is not effective, do not hesitate to discuss this with your psychiatrist or consider seeking a second opinion. Remember, you are not alone in this journey, and there are resources and support systems available to help you navigate these challenges. Please take care of yourself and reach out for help when needed.
