Nasal foreign body sensation / Nasal congestion

Hello doctor, for the past couple of months, I've been experiencing a sensation of having a blocked nose (not nasal congestion, but more like a feeling of having dried mucus inside).
As a result, I've been picking my nose more frequently.
Initially, when I would remove the dried mucus, my nose would feel clear, but over the past week or two, even though I still feel a blockage, I haven't been able to find any dried mucus after picking.
I try blowing my nose, which helps a bit (my nose feels clearer), but soon after, the blocked sensation returns.
It feels as if "my glasses are sitting too low, pressing on my nose," creating a sensation of pressure inside my nose.
(I wear glasses, but I've had them for a year without this issue, and I don't intentionally wear them too low.) I would like to ask the doctor what might be causing this.
Is it possible that my frequent nose picking has led to issues with the nasal mucosa, or could it be something else?

More Info

Nasal obstruction can be a frustrating and uncomfortable experience, and it sounds like you are dealing with a persistent sensation of blockage that is not alleviated by typical methods like nasal cleansing. This sensation can be caused by a variety of factors, and understanding these can help you find effective solutions.

Possible Causes of Your Symptoms
1. Nasal Mucosal Swelling: One of the most common causes of a sensation of nasal obstruction is swelling of the nasal mucosa. This can occur due to allergies, irritants in the environment, or even chronic sinusitis. When the mucosa swells, it can create a feeling of fullness or pressure in the nasal passages.

2. Nasal Polyps: These are benign growths that can develop in the nasal cavity or sinuses due to chronic inflammation. They can obstruct airflow and contribute to a feeling of nasal blockage.

3. Structural Issues: Deviated septum or other structural abnormalities in the nasal passages can lead to chronic obstruction. If you have a history of nasal trauma or surgery, this could also be a contributing factor.

4. Overzealous Nasal Cleaning: Frequent nose-picking or aggressive nasal cleaning can irritate the nasal mucosa, leading to inflammation and swelling. This can create a cycle where the more you clean, the more irritation you cause, leading to further blockage.

5. Environmental Factors: Changes in weather, humidity, or exposure to pollutants can exacerbate nasal symptoms. If you are experiencing this sensation more frequently during certain times of the year, it may be related to environmental allergens or irritants.

Solutions and Recommendations
1. Avoid Irritation: If you suspect that your nasal cleaning habits are contributing to your symptoms, try to minimize the frequency and intensity of nose-picking. Instead, consider using saline nasal sprays or rinses to gently cleanse your nasal passages without causing irritation.

2. Consult an ENT Specialist: Given the persistence of your symptoms, it would be wise to consult an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. They can perform a thorough examination, possibly including nasal endoscopy, to assess for any underlying issues such as polyps or structural abnormalities.

3. Allergy Testing: If allergies are suspected, consider undergoing allergy testing. Identifying specific allergens can help you manage your symptoms more effectively, whether through avoidance strategies or medications.

4. Medications: Depending on the findings, your doctor may recommend antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, or decongestants to help reduce inflammation and improve airflow.

5. Nasal Hygiene: Regularly using saline nasal sprays can help keep the nasal passages moist and clear of irritants. This can be particularly helpful if you live in a dry environment or during allergy season.

6. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep a diary of your symptoms, noting when they occur and any potential triggers. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider in determining the best course of action.

7. Consider Lifestyle Changes: If you have any known allergies or sensitivities, try to minimize exposure to those triggers. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet can support your overall respiratory health.

Conclusion
The sensation of nasal obstruction you are experiencing may be multifactorial, involving both physical and environmental elements. It is essential to approach this issue holistically, considering both your habits and potential underlying medical conditions. A thorough evaluation by an ENT specialist will provide clarity and guide you toward the most effective treatment options. Remember, self-care practices like gentle nasal hygiene and monitoring your environment can also play a significant role in managing your symptoms.
