Hello, I will be going out to celebrate New Year's, and it happens to coincide with my menstrual period (which is expected to start on December 31).
Therefore, I started taking the over-the-counter medication Norethisterone from December 28 to January 1 for a total of 5 days.
I would like to know how long after stopping the medication my period will come.
Thank you very much.

Norethisterone is a synthetic progestogen commonly used to delay menstruation or manage menstrual disorders. When you stop taking norethisterone, the timing of your period can vary based on individual hormonal responses and the duration for which you took the medication. Generally, after discontinuing norethisterone, you can expect your period to start within a few days to a week.

In your case, since you took norethisterone from December 28 to January 1, it is likely that your period may begin shortly after stopping the medication. Most women experience withdrawal bleeding within 3 to 7 days after stopping norethisterone. However, some may experience a delay, especially if they have underlying hormonal imbalances or irregular cycles.

It is important to note that norethisterone works by mimicking the effects of progesterone in the body, which can temporarily suppress the natural menstrual cycle. Once you stop taking it, your body will begin to readjust, and the natural hormonal signals that trigger menstruation will resume. Factors such as stress, changes in weight, and overall health can also influence the timing of your period.

If you do not experience your period within a week after stopping norethisterone, it may be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can assess your situation and determine if further evaluation is necessary. Additionally, if you have any concerns about your menstrual cycle or experience unusual symptoms, seeking medical advice is always a good practice.

In summary, after stopping norethisterone, expect your period to start within a few days to a week. However, individual responses can vary, and if your period does not arrive as expected, consider reaching out to a healthcare professional for guidance.
