Inability to urinate in a concentrated stream after circumcision?

Hello Doctor: It has been 24 days since my circumcision surgery, but I am still experiencing significant spraying issues when urinating.
Currently, it seems that the beginning and end of the urination process are the most prone to splashing, and when there is a larger volume of urine, it is easier to maintain a steady stream.
I previously discussed this issue with my surgeon, who told me it is a normal phenomenon and suggested that I try to learn how to urinate properly.
However, no matter how I try, I find it difficult to control.
I would like to ask if there are any solutions to this problem?

Hello: It may be advisable for you to try not to exert too much force while urinating, and to aim the urethral opening towards the toilet as much as possible.
Give it a try; it may not help too much, but I wish you good health.

Struggling with urination control after circumcision is a common concern among patients, and it can be quite distressing. After circumcision, some individuals may experience changes in urination patterns, including difficulty controlling the flow of urine, which can lead to splashing or erratic streams. This issue is often temporary, but there are several strategies and tips that can help improve urination control during the recovery period.

Understanding the Issue
After circumcision, the anatomy of the penis changes, and the sensitivity of the glans (the head of the penis) may also be altered. This can affect how urine is expelled. The surgical procedure can lead to swelling, changes in muscle control, and even psychological factors such as anxiety about urination, all of which can contribute to the difficulty in controlling the urine stream.

Tips for Improving Urination Control
1. Practice Relaxation Techniques: Anxiety can exacerbate urination issues. Try to relax before and during urination. Deep breathing exercises or visualization techniques can help calm your nerves.

2. Adjust Your Position: Experiment with different positions while urinating. Some men find that sitting down helps them control the flow better than standing. This can also minimize splashing.

3. Aim for the Center of the Toilet: When urinating, aim for the center of the toilet bowl rather than the sides. This can help reduce splashing and improve the flow.

4. Control the Flow: Try to start and stop the flow of urine intentionally. This can help you gain better control over your stream. Practice this when you are at home and feel comfortable.

5. Pelvic Floor Exercises: Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles can improve urinary control. Kegel exercises, which involve tightening and relaxing the muscles used to stop urination, can be beneficial. To perform Kegel exercises, identify the right muscles (the ones you use to stop urination), contract them for a few seconds, and then relax. Aim for three sets of 10 repetitions each day.

6. Stay Hydrated: Ensure you are drinking enough fluids. Sometimes, concentrated urine can lead to more splashing. Staying hydrated can help produce a steadier stream.

7. Patience and Time: It’s important to remember that healing takes time. Many men find that their control improves significantly within a few weeks to months after the procedure.
8. Follow-Up with Your Doctor: If the problem persists or worsens, it’s crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider. They can assess whether there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed, such as scarring or other complications from the surgery.

When to Seek Further Help
If you continue to experience significant issues with urination control after several weeks, or if you notice other symptoms such as pain, burning, or changes in urine color, it’s essential to consult with your doctor. They may refer you to a urologist for further evaluation and management.

In summary, while it’s common to experience some difficulties with urination control after circumcision, there are several strategies you can employ to improve your situation. With time, practice, and possibly some professional guidance, you should be able to regain better control over your urination. Remember to be patient with yourself during this recovery process.

Hello: The symptoms you are experiencing should not be associated with the circumcision procedure. It is recommended that you return for a follow-up appointment. At the very least, a urinalysis should be conducted. Wishing you good health.
