White bumps on the lips and foreskin?

Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask about something that looks like pimples on the foreskin.
I don't feel any pain, but sometimes it itches.
I noticed it when I was in elementary school, and at that time, I didn't know what it was.
I also have white bumps on my lips.
I'm currently 21 years old, have no sexual experience, and have never been to a public bathhouse.
Could it possibly be genital warts?

A Kai, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2022/03/10

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: If there is an increase, it is advisable to seek medical attention, as this platform cannot provide a diagnosis.
If there are no changes for many years, the likelihood of it being warts is low.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the appearance of white bumps on the lips and foreskin, there are several potential causes that one should consider. Given your description of the bumps resembling pimples, being present since childhood, and causing occasional itching without any pain, it is essential to explore various dermatological and medical conditions that could explain these symptoms.

One common cause of white bumps on the foreskin is Pearly Penile Papules. These are small, benign growths that typically appear around the corona of the glans penis. They are completely normal and are not associated with any disease or infection. They usually do not require treatment unless they cause significant concern or discomfort.

Another possibility is Fordyce Spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the lips and genital area. These are sebaceous glands that are not associated with hair follicles and are considered a normal anatomical variation. Like Pearly Penile Papules, they are harmless and do not require treatment.

In some cases, the bumps could be related to folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can occur in the genital area. This condition can be caused by bacterial or fungal infections, irritation from shaving, or friction from clothing. If the bumps are itchy and inflamed, it may be worth consulting a healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis and potential treatment.

Regarding your concern about genital warts (caused by the human papillomavirus or HPV), it is important to note that these typically present as small, flesh-colored or white bumps that can appear in clusters. While it is possible for someone to have HPV without being sexually active, the likelihood is low. If you have never engaged in sexual activity and have not been exposed to public baths or shared personal items, the risk of contracting HPV is significantly reduced. However, if you are concerned about the possibility of genital warts or any other sexually transmitted infections, it is advisable to seek a consultation with a healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis.

In summary, the white bumps you are experiencing on your lips and foreskin could be due to benign conditions such as Pearly Penile Papules or Fordyce Spots. If the bumps are causing you anxiety or if you notice any changes in their appearance, it is always best to consult a healthcare professional. They can perform a physical examination and, if necessary, conduct tests to rule out any infections or other conditions. Remember, maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider about any concerns regarding your sexual health is crucial for your overall well-being.
