Strange lesions on the foreskin?
Doctor, I have some white raised spots on my foreskin that are unevenly distributed, but all are located on the foreskin.
Sometimes they itch, and I am certain they are contagious because my girlfriend has also developed similar spots on her lips.
Additionally, my foreskin completely covers the glans, and the white spots are increasing in number.
This has been ongoing for at least 5 to 10 years.
I have no sexual experience, but I have had surgery in the past, and I'm unsure if that could be related to the transmission.
Is this a sexually transmitted infection? If I need to see a doctor, should I go to a dermatologist or a urologist? I hope you can provide some answers.
Thank you.

The presence of white bumps on the foreskin can be concerning, especially when accompanied by itching and the potential for transmission to a partner. Based on your description, there are several possible causes for these symptoms, and it's essential to understand them to determine the appropriate course of action.
One common cause of white bumps on the foreskin is Pearly Penile Papules. These are small, benign growths that typically appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis) and are often mistaken for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They are harmless and do not require treatment unless they cause discomfort or anxiety.
Another possibility is Fordyce Spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis and are caused by enlarged sebaceous (oil) glands. Like pearly penile papules, Fordyce spots are normal anatomical variations and do not indicate any health issues.
However, if the bumps are itchy and increasing in number, it could indicate a fungal infection, such as a yeast infection, particularly if your partner is experiencing similar symptoms on her lips. Yeast infections can cause white patches and discomfort and can be transmitted through intimate contact. In this case, antifungal treatments may be necessary.
Additionally, genital warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), could also present as white or flesh-colored bumps. These can be transmitted sexually and may require medical intervention for removal and management.
Given that you have had these bumps for several years, it is crucial to seek medical advice. You should consider visiting a dermatologist or a urologist. A dermatologist specializes in skin conditions and can provide a thorough examination of the bumps, while a urologist focuses on urinary and reproductive health and can address any concerns related to the genital area.
When you visit the doctor, be prepared to discuss your symptoms in detail, including when the bumps first appeared, any changes in their appearance, and any associated symptoms like itching or discomfort. This information will help the healthcare provider make an accurate diagnosis.
In the meantime, avoid self-diagnosing or treating the bumps with over-the-counter medications without consulting a healthcare professional. Using inappropriate treatments could exacerbate the condition or lead to further complications.
In conclusion, while the white bumps on your foreskin may not necessarily indicate a severe condition, it is essential to have them evaluated by a healthcare professional. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help alleviate any discomfort and prevent potential transmission to your partner.
