I am pregnant and would like to confirm the time of conception?
Hello, I had an ultrasound on March 23, and the doctor said I am six to seven weeks pregnant.
My last menstrual period was from February 1 to February 8, but I did not have my period in January.
My menstrual periods were December 24 to December 31, November 22 to November 28, and October 22 to October 27.
I had intercourse with my husband on February 18 and February 21, but I also had intercourse with my ex-boyfriend on February 25 (with a condom), so I am a bit concerned.
I would like to know if it's possible to determine the date of conception.
Tiffany, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2022/03/24

More Info
Determining the exact date of conception during pregnancy can be a complex process, especially when menstrual cycles are irregular or when multiple sexual encounters occur around the time of ovulation. In your case, we can use the information provided to estimate a possible conception date.
Firstly, the calculation of gestational age typically begins from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). In your case, the last menstrual period started on February 1 and ended on February 8. Based on a standard 28-day cycle, ovulation typically occurs about 14 days after the first day of your last period, which would place your ovulation around February 15. However, since your cycles appear to be irregular, this could vary.
You mentioned having sexual intercourse with your husband on February 18 and February 21, and with your ex-boyfriend on February 25. Given that sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, it is possible that conception could have occurred from any of these encounters, particularly if ovulation occurred later than expected.
On March 23, your ultrasound indicated that you were approximately six to seven weeks pregnant. This would suggest that conception likely occurred around six weeks prior to the ultrasound date, which would be around February 9 to February 16. This timeframe aligns closely with your ovulation estimate based on your LMP.
To summarize, the possible conception dates based on your provided information are as follows:
1. February 15: This is the estimated ovulation date based on a typical cycle.
2. February 18 or February 21: These dates correspond to the sexual encounters with your husband, which are within the fertile window following ovulation.
3. February 25: This date corresponds to the encounter with your ex-boyfriend, which is slightly outside the typical ovulation window but could still be a possibility if ovulation occurred later than expected.
Given the timing of your sexual encounters and the ultrasound results, it seems most likely that conception occurred from the encounters on February 18 or February 21, assuming ovulation occurred around February 15. However, without a definitive ovulation test or more precise tracking of your cycle, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact date of conception.
In conclusion, while we can estimate a range of possible conception dates, the exact date may remain uncertain due to the variability of ovulation and the lifespan of sperm. If you have further concerns or require more precise information, consider discussing this with your healthcare provider, who may offer additional insights based on your medical history and any further testing that may be available.
