There is a subtle pain in the lower left chest?
Waking up with pain under the left rib cage, unable to pinpoint the exact location upon pressing, and experiencing mild pain when breathing deeply at times.
Stretching seems to alleviate the discomfort somewhat, but sitting for extended periods still results in persistent mild pain.
Prior to the pain under the chest, there was pain on the left side of the rib cage, which later shifted to under the chest.
I'm unsure if this condition could be classified as inflammation.

Hello: Based on your description, your symptoms are more indicative of pain caused by fasciitis.
It is advisable to monitor the situation, and if the symptoms persist, I recommend visiting a pulmonology outpatient clinic.
Thank you.

Understanding left lower chest pain can be quite complex, as it can stem from various causes, ranging from musculoskeletal issues to more serious conditions involving the heart or lungs. Given your description of the pain, it’s essential to consider several potential factors.
Firstly, the pain you are experiencing could be related to musculoskeletal issues. Conditions such as costochondritis, which is inflammation of the cartilage connecting the ribs to the sternum, can cause localized pain that may worsen with certain movements or deep breathing. This type of pain is often sharp and can be exacerbated by pressing on the affected area, although you mentioned that pressing does not elicit significant pain. Another possibility is a muscle strain, especially if you have been engaging in activities that involve heavy lifting or unusual physical exertion.
Additionally, the fact that the pain seems to improve with stretching or changing positions suggests that it may be related to muscle tension or strain. Prolonged sitting can lead to muscle tightness, particularly in the chest and back, which may contribute to discomfort.
However, it’s crucial to rule out more serious conditions. Chest pain can sometimes be a sign of cardiac issues, especially if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as shortness of breath, sweating, or radiating pain to the arm or jaw. Although you did not mention these symptoms, it’s always wise to be cautious. Conditions such as pericarditis (inflammation of the lining around the heart) or even pulmonary issues like pleuritis (inflammation of the lining of the lungs) could also present with similar symptoms.
Given your history of left-sided rib pain that transitioned to lower chest pain, it’s possible that there is an underlying inflammatory process. Inflammation can occur in various structures, including muscles, cartilage, or even the pleura surrounding the lungs. If the pain persists or worsens, or if you develop new symptoms, it would be advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare professional may recommend imaging studies, such as an X-ray or MRI, to assess for any structural issues or inflammation.
In summary, while your symptoms may suggest a musculoskeletal origin, it is essential to remain vigilant for any signs of more serious conditions. If the pain continues or if you experience additional symptoms, please consult a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They can perform a physical examination, possibly order imaging studies, and provide a more definitive diagnosis and treatment plan. In the meantime, consider gentle stretching exercises, applying heat to the affected area, and ensuring you maintain good posture, especially if you spend long periods sitting.
