Pubic hair issues and body hair?

Hello doctor, I am currently almost 19 years old.
Is it normal to still be growing pubic hair at this age? Additionally, I recently noticed some small hairs growing in the groin area.
Should I see a doctor about this?

Hello: Most of the time, there are no issues as long as the testicles are normal.

At 19 years old, it is completely normal for you to still be experiencing pubic hair growth. Puberty is a gradual process that can continue into the late teens and even early twenties for some individuals. The development of pubic hair is influenced by hormonal changes in the body, particularly the increase in androgens, which are male hormones that also play a role in female physiology.
Pubic hair typically begins to grow during puberty, which can start anywhere from ages 9 to 14, and it may take several years for hair growth to reach its full extent. The presence of hair in the groin area, including the inner thighs and around the buttocks, is a normal part of human anatomy. The growth of hair in these areas can vary significantly from person to person, influenced by genetics, hormonal levels, and individual development patterns.

Regarding the small hairs you’ve noticed in the groin area, this is also typically normal. Hair can appear in various regions of the body as you mature, and it may be more noticeable in some areas than others. If the hair growth is consistent with what you see in other areas of your body, such as the pubic region, it is likely just a normal part of your development.

However, there are certain situations where it may be advisable to see a doctor. If you experience any of the following, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional:
1. Sudden Changes: If you notice a sudden increase in hair growth in unusual areas (like the face or chest for females), it could indicate a hormonal imbalance that may need to be evaluated.

2. Skin Changes: If you experience any unusual skin changes, such as rashes, itching, or irritation in the areas where hair is growing, it could be a sign of an infection or other dermatological condition.

3. Pain or Discomfort: If you have any pain, discomfort, or other symptoms associated with the hair growth, it would be prudent to seek medical advice.

4. Concerns About Hygiene: If you are worried about hygiene or the appearance of the hair, a healthcare provider can offer guidance on grooming options and hygiene practices.

In summary, at your age, experiencing continued pubic hair growth is normal and part of the maturation process. The appearance of hair in the groin area is also typical. If you have any concerns about changes in hair growth patterns or associated symptoms, it is always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and reassurance.
