Recurrent inflammation of the glans penis?
Due to the pandemic, I haven't seen a doctor and would like to ask if it's normal for my glans to be experiencing recurrent inflammation.
This has been happening for about six months, with inflammation lasting around 2 to 3 days and then improving for 3 to 5 days, but the frequency is quite high.
The glans and foreskin appear red and irritated, and there are some slightly noticeable clear blisters.
However, my fasting blood sugar levels have been around 85 to 88 for the past one to two years, and I haven't engaged in any unsafe sexual behavior.
Given the frequency and duration of the inflammation, shouldn't a typical inflammation have resolved by now? Is there a problem with my immune system?

More Info
Recurrent inflammation of the glans, also known as balanitis, can be concerning, especially when it persists over an extended period, as you have described. The symptoms you are experiencing—redness, irritation, and the presence of small, translucent blisters—can be indicative of several underlying issues.
Causes of Recurrent Inflammation
1. Infections: Balanitis can be caused by various infections, including bacterial, fungal (such as Candida), or viral infections. Even if you have not engaged in unsafe sexual practices, it is possible to develop infections from other sources, such as poor hygiene or irritants.
2. Irritants: Certain soaps, lotions, or even laundry detergents can irritate the sensitive skin of the glans and foreskin, leading to inflammation. If you have recently changed any personal care products, this could be a contributing factor.
3. Skin Conditions: Conditions such as eczema or psoriasis can also affect the genital area, leading to recurrent inflammation. These conditions can cause the skin to become red, itchy, and flaky.
4. Diabetes: Although your blood sugar levels appear to be well-controlled, diabetes can predispose individuals to infections, including balanitis. High glucose levels in urine can create a favorable environment for yeast infections.
5. Immune System Issues: While your symptoms do not necessarily indicate a systemic immune issue, recurrent infections can sometimes suggest that the immune system is not functioning optimally.
Concerns and Recommendations
Given that your symptoms have persisted for about six months, it is advisable to seek medical attention. Here are some steps you can take:
1. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Even though the pandemic has made it challenging to visit healthcare facilities, it is crucial to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination and possibly take cultures to identify any infectious agents.
2. Maintain Good Hygiene: Ensure that you are practicing good genital hygiene. Gently wash the area with mild soap and water, and avoid using harsh chemicals or fragrances.
3. Avoid Irritants: Pay attention to any products you use in the genital area. If you suspect a product may be causing irritation, discontinue its use.
4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep a record of your symptoms, including their frequency, duration, and any potential triggers. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider.
5. Consider Lifestyle Factors: Factors such as stress, diet, and overall health can impact your immune system. Maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and managing stress can support your immune health.
Conclusion
Recurrent inflammation of the glans is not something to ignore, especially when it has been ongoing for several months. While there are various potential causes, a healthcare professional can provide a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment. It is essential to address this issue promptly to prevent further complications and to ensure your overall health and well-being.
