The issues of blackheads and enlarged pores?

Hello, I would like to ask: Since puberty, the tip of my nose and the sides of my nostrils have been what you would call "strawberry" skin, and now that I am older, there has been no improvement; in fact, the "strawberry" appearance has become more pronounced.
Of course, my pores are not getting any smaller (they are clearly visible even without a magnifying glass).
I often find that when I press on them with my fingers, a layer of white and yellowish secretion can be squeezed out, indicating that I have oily skin.
Occasionally, it also peels, which is really unsightly.
Therefore, I would like to know if a dermatologist can help improve this condition? I really don't want to continue using painful masks, but if I only exfoliate, the blackheads remain stubbornly unchanged, only expanding their territory.
So, I would like to ask the doctor what I should do?

To clear acne, exfoliating agents such as salicylic acid, retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, and azelaic acid can be used to gradually soften and remove comedones.
While pore strips may provide immediate satisfaction, their aggressive nature makes them unsuitable for frequent use, as they can damage the surrounding healthy skin and hair follicles.
It is important to maintain proper cleansing, exfoliation, and to avoid overly oily skincare products to prevent pore blockage.
For oily skin, in addition to maintaining facial cleanliness, it is advisable to keep tissues or blotting papers on hand for quick absorption of excess oil.
Using a sebum-controlling serum can also make managing oil production easier.

Dealing with blackheads and enlarged pores can be a frustrating experience, especially when they seem to persist despite your best efforts. From your description, it sounds like you are dealing with a combination of oily skin, blackheads, and possibly some irritation or dryness that leads to peeling. Fortunately, there are effective solutions available, and consulting with a dermatologist is a great first step.

Understanding Blackheads and Enlarged Pores
Blackheads are a type of acne that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. When the clogged material is exposed to air, it oxidizes and turns black, hence the name "blackhead." Enlarged pores can be a result of excess oil production, loss of skin elasticity, and the accumulation of debris within the pores.

Effective Treatments
1. Topical Treatments:
- Salicylic Acid: This beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is particularly effective for treating blackheads because it penetrates the pores and helps to dissolve the debris that causes blockages. Regular use can help reduce the appearance of blackheads and minimize pore size.

- Retinoids: Topical retinoids (like tretinoin) can promote cell turnover, helping to prevent clogged pores and improve skin texture. They can also help with the overall appearance of enlarged pores.

- Benzoyl Peroxide: While more commonly used for inflammatory acne, benzoyl peroxide can help reduce the bacteria on the skin and may assist in keeping pores clear.

2. Exfoliation:
- Regular exfoliation is crucial for managing blackheads and enlarged pores. Chemical exfoliants (like AHAs and BHAs) can be more effective than physical scrubs, which can sometimes irritate the skin. Look for products that contain glycolic acid or lactic acid for gentle exfoliation.

3. Professional Treatments:
- Chemical Peels: A dermatologist can perform chemical peels that use stronger concentrations of acids to exfoliate the skin deeply, helping to clear out blackheads and improve skin texture.

- Microdermabrasion: This treatment involves a professional exfoliation technique that can help remove dead skin cells and improve the appearance of pores.

- Extraction: A dermatologist can safely extract blackheads using specialized tools, which can be more effective and less damaging than attempting to do it yourself.

4. Skincare Routine:
- Gentle Cleansing: Use a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils, which can lead to increased oil production.

- Moisturizing: Even oily skin needs hydration. Look for lightweight, oil-free moisturizers that won’t clog pores.

- Sunscreen: Protecting your skin from sun damage is essential, as UV exposure can worsen the appearance of pores and skin texture.

Lifestyle Considerations
- Diet: While the relationship between diet and acne is still being studied, maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can support overall skin health.

- Hydration: Drinking plenty of water can help keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

- Avoid Picking: Resist the urge to pick at your skin, as this can lead to scarring and further irritation.

Conclusion
In summary, managing blackheads and enlarged pores requires a combination of effective topical treatments, professional interventions, and a consistent skincare routine. Consulting with a dermatologist can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific skin type and concerns. They can help you navigate the various options available and create a tailored treatment plan that addresses your unique needs. Remember, patience is key, as it may take time to see significant improvements in your skin's appearance.
