Does willow herb cause menstrual delays? Is it necessary to receive a menstrual induction injection to bring on menstruation?

Hello doctor, I am currently undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.
I had my egg retrieval on April 10 and returned for a follow-up on May 12 to receive Lupron to adjust my hormones.
I would like to ask if receiving Lupron can cause a delay in my menstrual period.
If I want to induce my period, can I take oral medications or use injections to facilitate its onset?

Dr. Zhang Kunmin reply Obstetrics and Gynecology

It is recommended that you discuss this with your treating physician to avoid any delays in your therapy.

Liu Bu Lin, known scientifically as "Liu Wei Di Huang Wan," is a traditional Chinese herbal remedy often used for various health issues, including hormonal balance. When considering its effects on menstruation, it is essential to understand that herbal remedies can influence the body differently than conventional medications.
In the context of your situation, where you are undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, hormonal regulation is crucial. After egg retrieval, your body undergoes significant hormonal changes, and the administration of Liu Bu Lin may indeed have an impact on your menstrual cycle. While there is limited scientific literature specifically addressing Liu Bu Lin's effect on menstruation, some users report alterations in their menstrual cycle, including delays. This could be due to the herbal formulation's influence on hormonal levels, which may either suppress or stimulate menstrual flow.

If you are experiencing a delay in your menstruation after receiving Liu Bu Lin, it is essential to consider several factors. First, hormonal fluctuations are common after IVF procedures, and your body may still be adjusting post-egg retrieval. The timing of your menstrual cycle can be affected by various elements, including stress, changes in routine, and the medications you are taking as part of your IVF protocol.

Regarding the use of hormonal medications to induce menstruation, it is generally advisable to consult with your fertility specialist or healthcare provider before taking any action. Hormonal treatments, such as progestin or estrogen, can effectively induce menstruation, but they should be used under medical supervision, especially in the context of IVF. Self-medicating with hormonal agents can lead to unintended consequences, including further hormonal imbalance or complications in your IVF treatment.

If your goal is to regulate your menstrual cycle or induce menstruation, your healthcare provider may recommend specific medications tailored to your needs. They will consider your overall health, the specifics of your IVF treatment, and any potential interactions with other medications you may be taking.

In summary, while Liu Bu Lin may potentially delay menstruation due to its hormonal effects, it is crucial to approach this situation with caution. Consulting with your healthcare provider is the best course of action to determine the appropriate steps to take, whether that involves waiting for your body to adjust or using hormonal medications to induce menstruation. Your healthcare provider will have the most comprehensive understanding of your individual case and can provide personalized recommendations based on your health history and current treatment plan.
