Prostate Issues: Concerns About Ejaculation Difficulties - Urology

I would like to ask the doctor about prostate-related issues?

Subject: I am currently taking SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) for anxiety, which has caused difficulties with ejaculation.
Despite this, I still engage in masturbation, often taking a long time without ejaculation.
A few days ago, after showering in the morning, I suddenly felt symptoms resembling prostatitis, with a low volume of urine but a strong urge to urinate.
My lower abdomen felt uncomfortable, but after resting, I was able to urinate normally, although occasionally it was slightly slow.
After a few days of rest, the discomfort has mostly subsided.
I have been abstaining for the past few days, but shortly after using the restroom in the morning and showering, I again experienced a slight urge to urinate with little output.
Aside from this, I do not feel particularly unwell.
I would like to ask the doctor what this situation might indicate.
Is it possible that the long-term inability to ejaculate combined with masturbation has led to some issues, or could I be experiencing prostatitis? If this situation is indeed related to masturbation, how long should I refrain from it? Thank you.

Ejaculation difficulties can be a complex issue, often influenced by various physical and psychological factors. In your case, it seems that you are experiencing challenges with ejaculation, which may be exacerbated by the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a common class of antidepressants that can have sexual side effects, including delayed ejaculation or anorgasmia (the inability to achieve orgasm).
SSRIs work by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which can help alleviate anxiety and depression but may also interfere with sexual function. This is a well-documented side effect, and many individuals taking these medications report difficulties with ejaculation. If you are experiencing prolonged periods of difficulty in ejaculating, it may be worthwhile to discuss this with your prescribing physician. They might consider adjusting your medication or dosage, or possibly switching to another class of antidepressants that have a lower incidence of sexual side effects.

Additionally, your mention of experiencing a sensation akin to prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) could indicate a separate issue that warrants further investigation. Prostatitis can manifest as pelvic pain, difficulty urinating, and discomfort in the lower abdomen. The fact that you noted a feeling of urgency to urinate, along with a sensation of incomplete bladder emptying, could suggest a potential issue with your prostate or urinary tract.
Given that you have also experienced some discomfort in your lower abdomen and changes in urination patterns, it would be prudent to consult a urologist. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination, urinalysis, and possibly imaging studies or a prostate exam to rule out any underlying conditions such as prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), even at a younger age.

In terms of managing your symptoms, if you suspect that your ejaculation difficulties are linked to your medication, it may be beneficial to take a break from masturbation to see if your symptoms improve. However, this should be done under the guidance of a healthcare professional. It is essential to find a balance that works for you, as sexual health is an important aspect of overall well-being.

Furthermore, lifestyle modifications can also play a role in improving sexual function. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and stress management techniques such as mindfulness or therapy can help alleviate some of the psychological burdens that may contribute to sexual dysfunction.
In summary, your difficulties with ejaculation and urination may stem from a combination of factors, including the effects of SSRIs and potential prostate issues. It is crucial to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and concerns. They can guide you through the process of finding a solution that addresses both your mental health needs and your sexual health concerns.
