Suture issues?

I'm sorry to bother the doctor again.
It's been 1 month and 1 day since I had my circumcision, but the stitches have not yet dissolved.
A few days ago, the stitches irritated the skin on the shaft of my penis, causing a small wound, but it has healed.
Today, I felt something was off, so I trimmed two of the longer stitch ends, but I didn't remove the entire stitch, just shortened the ends.
I'm wondering if this could lead to any complications, such as the trimmed stitch end getting lodged in the glans or something similar? Or am I just overthinking this?

Don't worry! It's all good! If you're not feeling "comfortable," just let the surgeon take care of it for you!

After a circumcision, it is common to have concerns about the stitches and the healing process. It sounds like you are experiencing some discomfort due to the stitches, which is not unusual. Here are some points to consider regarding your situation and general advice on post-circumcision care.

1. Stitch Dissolution: Typically, the stitches used in circumcision are either absorbable or non-absorbable. Absorbable stitches usually dissolve within a few weeks, while non-absorbable stitches need to be removed by a healthcare professional. Since you mentioned that it has been over a month and the stitches have not yet fallen out, it is important to consult your surgeon or healthcare provider to determine whether they are absorbable or if they need to be removed.

2. Cutting the Stitch Ends: You mentioned that you trimmed the ends of the stitches because they were causing discomfort. While this is a common instinct to alleviate irritation, it is crucial to be cautious. Cutting the stitch ends should not cause any significant complications, as long as you did not cut too deeply into the tissue or cause any additional injury. The risk of the cut ends becoming embedded in the skin or causing an infection is low, but it is always best to monitor the area for any signs of increased redness, swelling, or discharge.

3. Healing Process: The healing process after circumcision can vary from person to person. It is normal to experience some discomfort, swelling, and sensitivity in the area for several weeks post-surgery. If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as excessive pain, persistent bleeding, or signs of infection (like pus or fever), you should seek medical attention promptly.

4. Follow-Up Care: It is essential to follow up with your healthcare provider for a post-operative check-up. They can assess the healing process, remove any non-absorbable stitches if necessary, and provide guidance on how to care for the area as it continues to heal. They can also address any concerns you may have about the stitches or the healing process.

5. Avoiding Complications: To minimize the risk of complications, keep the area clean and dry. Avoid any activities that may cause trauma to the area, such as vigorous sexual activity or heavy lifting, until you receive clearance from your healthcare provider. Wearing loose-fitting underwear can also help reduce irritation.

6. Mental Health Considerations: It’s understandable to feel anxious about your recovery and the potential for complications. If you find that your worries are affecting your mental well-being, consider discussing your concerns with a healthcare professional. They can provide reassurance and support, which can be beneficial during your recovery.

In summary, while trimming the stitch ends may provide temporary relief from discomfort, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and to ensure that your healing process is on track. They can provide personalized advice and address any lingering concerns you may have. Remember that healing takes time, and it is crucial to be patient and attentive to your body’s signals during this period.
