The discharge has a medicinal odor?

In early June, I received treatment for a vaginal yeast infection, which involved using suppositories for a month and a half.
In the last week, since the doctor said I was almost cured, I switched to oral medication due to an allergic reaction to the suppositories, and I was told I didn't need to return for follow-up.
However, I have noticed a strong medicinal odor in my discharge.
It has been half a month since my last suppository, and I would like to know if it is normal for my discharge to still have a medicinal smell.
I experience yellow discharge daily (currently wearing panty liners), and there is no itching in the genital area anymore.
Previously, during pregnancy, I was diagnosed with cervical incompetence.
Is this related to the continuous discharge I am experiencing, which is like a faucet, with yellow discharge every day? Thank you for your response, doctor.

Hello, Dou Dou: The normal vagina has a healthy flora that maintains a mildly acidic environment.
Once this environment is disrupted, it becomes susceptible to fungal or bacterial infections.
Typically, after treating a fungal infection, in addition to keeping the external genital area clean and dry, it is recommended to use suppositories for treating bacterial vaginosis, as this can provide a more lasting solution.
Additionally, there is no correlation between vaginal and cervical incompetence.

It sounds like you have been through quite a challenging experience with your vaginal health, and I appreciate you sharing the details of your situation. Based on your description, it is understandable to be concerned about the nature of your vaginal discharge, especially after a prolonged treatment for a yeast infection.

Firstly, regarding the medicinal odor of your discharge, it is not uncommon for women to notice a lingering scent after using antifungal medications, especially if they have been used over an extended period. The medications can alter the natural flora of the vagina, and it may take some time for your body to return to its normal state. However, it is important to note that while a medicinal odor can be a temporary side effect of treatment, it should not persist indefinitely. If the odor continues or worsens, it could indicate that there is still some irritation or an imbalance in the vaginal flora, which may require further evaluation.

The presence of yellow discharge can also be concerning. While some yellow discharge can be normal, especially if it is not accompanied by itching, burning, or a foul odor, it is essential to monitor the situation closely. Since you mentioned that the discharge is consistent and resembles a "water faucet," this could suggest a few possibilities. It may be a residual effect of the treatment, or it could indicate another underlying issue, such as bacterial vaginosis or another type of infection.
Regarding your previous pregnancy and the mention of cervical incompetence, it is unlikely that this condition directly causes increased vaginal discharge. Cervical incompetence typically refers to the inability of the cervix to remain closed during pregnancy, leading to premature birth or miscarriage. However, if you have concerns about your cervical health, it would be prudent to discuss this with your healthcare provider, as they can perform the necessary examinations to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

Given your history and the current symptoms, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They may suggest a pelvic examination and possibly a culture of the discharge to determine if there is an ongoing infection or another issue that needs to be addressed. Additionally, they can provide guidance on whether any further treatment is necessary and help you understand the changes in your body.

In summary, while a medicinal odor and yellow discharge can occur after treatment for a yeast infection, persistent symptoms warrant further investigation. It is always best to err on the side of caution and consult with a healthcare professional who can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current symptoms. Your health and peace of mind are important, and seeking professional guidance is the best course of action.
