Post-Injury Infections: What to Do After a Foreskin Injury - Dermatology

It seems that the foreskin has been injured and is possibly infected?

Hello Doctor: I work at a construction site and had a sexual encounter at an adult venue where I received a handjob from a sex worker about a month ago.
I sustained a serious injury, and it hurts when I wash or come into contact with water.
I am currently in the healing process, but the wound has developed some unusual growths.
The images can be found here: https://upload.cc/i1/2022/09/17/8b9LPj.png and https://upload.cc/i1/2022/09/17/fEeTSu.png.
The growths are slightly raised and have black spots inside.
I would like to know what this might be and whether I need to seek immediate medical attention at a hospital, as I am currently working away from home.
Thank you very much.

I cannot provide a diagnosis directly here.
If you are feeling very unwell, it is important to seek treatment at a hospital as soon as possible.

In the context of your injury, it is crucial to understand the potential complications that can arise from a foreskin injury, especially when there are signs of abnormal healing, such as the presence of unusual growths or discoloration at the injury site. The images you provided indicate that there may be some form of abnormal tissue formation, which could be a sign of infection, necrosis, or even a benign growth.
Firstly, it is essential to recognize that any injury to the genital area can lead to complications, including infections. The fact that you are experiencing pain when washing and that the wound is not healing as expected raises concerns. The presence of "weird" growths, especially if they have black spots, could indicate a few possibilities:
1. Granulation Tissue: This is a normal part of the healing process, where new tissue forms to replace the damaged tissue. However, if it appears abnormal, it may require further evaluation.

2. Infection: If the area is infected, it could lead to the formation of pus or necrotic tissue, which may appear as dark spots. Signs of infection include increased pain, swelling, redness, and discharge.

3. Keloids or Hypertrophic Scarring: These are types of abnormal scar tissue that can form after an injury. They can be raised and may have a different color than the surrounding skin.

4. Other Pathologies: In some cases, unusual growths could indicate more serious conditions, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other dermatological issues.

Given that you are currently working away from home and may not have immediate access to healthcare, it is still advisable to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Here are some steps you can take:
- Avoid Irritation: Until you can see a doctor, try to avoid any activities that may irritate the area further, including sexual activity or tight clothing.

- Keep the Area Clean: Gently clean the area with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or scrubbing the area, as this could exacerbate the injury.

- Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on any changes in the wound, including increased pain, swelling, or discharge. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately.

- Seek Medical Attention: Given the potential for complications, it is highly recommended that you visit a healthcare provider. If possible, find a local clinic or hospital where you can get a proper evaluation. Explain your situation clearly, including the nature of the injury and any symptoms you are experiencing.

In summary, while some injuries may heal without complications, the presence of unusual growths and ongoing pain suggests that you should not delay seeking medical care. A healthcare professional can provide a thorough examination, determine the nature of the growths, and recommend appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotics if an infection is present or other interventions based on the findings. Your health and well-being should always be the priority, especially with injuries in sensitive areas.

It sounds like your symptoms may be due to a lack of lubrication causing an injury. If there is trauma from rough activity, the moist environment can hinder healing. While circumcision might be beneficial, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a must; the focus should be on...

Hello: You can use antibiotic ointment. Be careful not to get it wet for the first few days after surgery; if it does get wet, make sure to dry it thoroughly. Keep the wound protected. Minimize erections; it is safe only after about two weeks when the wound is fully healed. Wishi...
