Ovarian cystadenoma
Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask a couple of questions.
I had my last sexual intercourse on October 20, but it lasted less than 10 thrusts (no ejaculation).
I went to the gynecologist on October 25 and was found to have two cysts (1 cm and 1.5 cm).
My normal menstruation is expected on November 8.
1.
Is there a possibility of pregnancy from this encounter, considering it was my first experience and lasted less than 10 thrusts without a condom?
2.
Will these cysts affect my menstrual cycle? However, I am experiencing symptoms similar to my usual premenstrual symptoms, such as breast tenderness and lower abdominal pain.
Thank you.
Ting, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2022/11/06

Hello, the questioner: There is a possibility of pregnancy even if ejaculation has not occurred, as pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm.
It is advisable to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late.
The menstrual cycle, ovulation timing, and hormone secretion are related, and are generally not associated with cysts.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When it comes to understanding ovarian cysts, pregnancy concerns, and the impact on the menstrual cycle, it’s essential to address each of your questions with clarity and medical insight.
1. Pregnancy Concerns: Based on your description, you had a sexual encounter on October 20, and you mentioned that there was no ejaculation (internal ejaculation) during this encounter. While the risk of pregnancy is significantly lower without ejaculation, it is important to note that pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm. Therefore, even with minimal penetration and no ejaculation, there is still a small chance of pregnancy occurring. If your menstrual cycle is regular and you expect your period around November 8, you can take a home pregnancy test if your period is late. Most home pregnancy tests are accurate about a week after a missed period.
2. Impact of Ovarian Cysts on Menstrual Cycle: You mentioned that you have two ovarian cysts (1 cm and 1.5 cm) detected during your gynecological examination. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form on the ovaries and are quite common. In most cases, functional cysts (which are related to the menstrual cycle) do not significantly impact menstrual cycles. However, they can sometimes cause symptoms such as pelvic pain, bloating, or changes in your menstrual cycle.
Given that you are experiencing breast tenderness and lower abdominal pain, these symptoms can be associated with both the impending menstrual cycle and the presence of ovarian cysts. It is not uncommon for women with ovarian cysts to experience discomfort, especially if the cysts are larger or if they rupture. However, if your symptoms are severe or if you experience significant changes in your menstrual cycle, it is advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider.
In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from your described encounter is low, it is not zero. Monitoring your menstrual cycle and taking a pregnancy test if your period is late is a prudent approach. Regarding the ovarian cysts, they may cause some discomfort but typically do not disrupt the menstrual cycle significantly. If you have ongoing pain or other concerning symptoms, seeking further evaluation from your healthcare provider is essential to rule out any complications and to ensure your reproductive health is managed appropriately.
