Pain during masturbation but not during intercourse?
Recently, I have noticed that when I masturbate, before reaching ejaculation, I start to feel pain on the left side of the glans, almost like a cramping sensation inside the glans.
I have to stop the activity and allow my genitalia to soften, which alleviates the pain.
If I continue to ejaculation, the pain becomes quite intense, and even when the genitalia softens, it still hurts, lasting for about five minutes.
However, after the pain subsides, everything returns to normal.
At other times, I have no issues; I do not experience pain during erections, and urination is normal.
Additionally, when I have intercourse with a female partner, everything is completely normal and painless.
The only time I experience pain is during masturbation, and I ejaculate about 2 to 3 times a week.
I would like to know what might be causing this issue.
Thank you.

If not, medical attention should be sought.

More Info
Experiencing pain during masturbation but not during intercourse can be concerning and may indicate an underlying issue that should be addressed. Based on your description, it seems that the pain occurs specifically in the left side of the glans (the head of the penis) and feels like a cramping sensation. This pain subsides when you stop the activity, and it does not occur during sexual intercourse with a partner.
There are several potential explanations for this phenomenon:
1. Physical Factors: The pain you are experiencing could be related to the way you are stimulating yourself. If the technique or grip you use during masturbation is too tight or aggressive, it could lead to discomfort or pain. The anatomy of the penis is such that excessive pressure or friction can cause pain, especially if there is any underlying sensitivity in that area.
2. Nerve Sensitivity: Some individuals may have heightened sensitivity in certain areas of the penis, which can lead to pain during masturbation but not during intercourse. This could be due to nerve endings being more reactive during self-stimulation.
3. Pelvic Floor Tension: Tension in the pelvic floor muscles can lead to discomfort during sexual activities, including masturbation. If these muscles are overly tense, they may cause pain during certain movements or positions.
4. Infection or Inflammation: Although you mentioned that you have no issues with urination or other symptoms, it is still possible that there could be a mild infection or inflammation affecting the area. Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) could potentially cause localized pain during masturbation.
5. Psychological Factors: Sometimes, psychological factors such as anxiety or stress can manifest physically. If you are feeling anxious about masturbation or have any associated guilt or discomfort, this could lead to physical symptoms.
6. Erectile Dysfunction or Other Conditions: Although you mentioned that you do not experience pain during intercourse, it is worth noting that certain conditions affecting erectile function can lead to discomfort during masturbation.
Given that the pain occurs only during masturbation and not during intercourse, it may suggest that the issue is related to your technique or physical factors rather than a serious medical condition. However, it is essential to monitor the situation. If the pain persists, worsens, or if you notice any other symptoms (such as swelling, redness, or discharge), it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional, preferably a urologist. They can perform a thorough examination and may recommend tests to rule out any underlying conditions.
In the meantime, consider adjusting your technique during masturbation. You might try using a different grip, applying less pressure, or varying your rhythm to see if that alleviates the pain. Additionally, practicing relaxation techniques may help reduce any pelvic tension that could be contributing to the discomfort.
In summary, while the pain you are experiencing during masturbation is likely not indicative of a severe issue, it is essential to listen to your body. If the discomfort continues or you have any concerns, seeking medical advice is the best course of action.
