Glans issues
Hello doctor, six days ago I had sexual intercourse, and I have also engaged in some DIY activities since then.
Two days ago, I noticed there was a hematoma under the skin of my glans.
However, yesterday afternoon I found that the hematoma issue has resolved, but it seems that the skin in that area is starting to peel.
I would like to ask what might be happening.
Thank you.

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology
Hello: The presence of hematoma indicates microvascular injury, while peeling skin without redness may suggest that the injury is healing.
Wishing you good health.
If there is redness, please seek medical attention.

When it comes to issues related to the glans, particularly concerning blood accumulation and skin shedding, it’s essential to understand the underlying mechanisms and possible causes. Based on your description, it seems that you experienced a temporary condition following sexual activity, which is not uncommon.
Firstly, the accumulation of blood under the skin of the glans can occur due to various reasons, including trauma or friction during sexual activity. This can lead to localized swelling and the appearance of a bruise or hematoma, which is essentially blood pooling in the tissue. The fact that you noted the blood accumulation resolved within a couple of days is a positive sign, indicating that your body is healing itself.
As for the shedding of the skin in the area where the blood accumulation occurred, this can be attributed to a few factors. The skin is a dynamic organ that undergoes constant renewal. When there is trauma or irritation, such as from friction or pressure, the outer layer of skin (epidermis) may respond by shedding or peeling away. This process can be exacerbated by moisture, friction, or even the natural healing process as the body works to repair any damage.
It’s also worth noting that the glans is a sensitive area with a different skin texture compared to other parts of the body. The skin here is thinner and more delicate, making it more susceptible to irritation and injury. If the skin is shedding, it could be a normal part of the healing process, but it’s essential to monitor the area for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge.
In terms of care, it’s advisable to keep the area clean and dry. Avoid any further irritation by refraining from activities that may cause friction until the skin has healed. If you experience any pain, persistent irritation, or if the shedding continues for an extended period, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional. They can provide a thorough examination and determine if any treatment is necessary.
Additionally, if you have any underlying conditions, such as skin disorders or infections, these could also contribute to the symptoms you are experiencing. Conditions like balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or other dermatological issues could present with similar symptoms, so it’s crucial to rule these out.
In summary, the blood accumulation you experienced is likely a result of trauma from sexual activity, and the subsequent skin shedding is a normal part of the healing process. However, if you have any concerns or if symptoms persist, seeking medical advice is always the best course of action. Your health and comfort should be the priority, and a healthcare provider can offer personalized guidance based on your specific situation.
