Menstruation occurs every 15 days?
Hello, Doctor.
My menstrual cycle usually occurs every 22-25 days, which is quite regular for me.
My last period started on February 17, and today, March 3, I have started again, which is only 15 days apart.
During February, I consumed "soy protein isolate powder" given by my family for about 14 days.
After my last period ended on February 17, I began experiencing breast tenderness, so I stopped taking it immediately, worried that it might be related to the soy protein.
However, the breast tenderness has persisted until today, March 3, when my period started.
I also have a uterine fibroid that is about 2 cm in size.
Could you please advise if I need further examination in this situation? Thank you.

Irregular menstrual cycles can be concerning, especially when they deviate from your normal pattern. In your case, you mentioned that your menstrual cycle typically ranges from 22 to 25 days, but you experienced a period just 15 days after your last one. This significant change can be attributed to various factors, including hormonal fluctuations, dietary changes, stress, or underlying medical conditions.
1. Hormonal Fluctuations: Hormones play a crucial role in regulating the menstrual cycle. Any changes in hormone levels, whether due to stress, weight fluctuations, or dietary changes (such as the introduction of soy protein), can lead to irregularities. Soy products, particularly those containing phytoestrogens, can influence estrogen levels in the body, potentially affecting your menstrual cycle.
2. Uterine Fibroids: You mentioned having a uterine fibroid measuring about 2 cm. Fibroids can sometimes cause changes in menstrual patterns, including heavier bleeding or more frequent periods. While many women with fibroids experience no symptoms, it's essential to monitor any changes in your cycle, especially if you notice increased pain, bleeding, or other unusual symptoms.
3. Dietary Influences: The introduction of new supplements or dietary changes can impact your hormonal balance. In your case, the consumption of soy protein for 14 days may have contributed to your breast tenderness and altered menstrual cycle. It’s advisable to observe how your body reacts to dietary changes and consult with a healthcare provider if you notice persistent symptoms.
4. When to Seek Medical Advice: Given your history of a regular cycle and the recent changes, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare provider. You should seek medical advice if:
- Your periods continue to be irregular or if you experience significant changes in flow or duration.
- You experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, or any other concerning symptoms.
- You have persistent breast tenderness or other symptoms that do not resolve after stopping the soy protein.
5. Further Evaluation: A healthcare provider may recommend further evaluation, which could include a pelvic ultrasound to assess the fibroid and any other potential issues, blood tests to check hormone levels, or a thorough review of your medical history and lifestyle factors. This assessment can help determine if there are any underlying conditions that need to be addressed.
In summary, while occasional irregularities in your menstrual cycle can occur, especially in response to dietary changes or hormonal fluctuations, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. Given your history of a uterine fibroid and the recent changes in your cycle, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and to discuss your concerns. Early intervention can help manage any potential issues effectively and provide peace of mind.
