Can I get pregnant?

On February 26 and 27, I had intercourse with my girlfriend (I used a condom before penetration and withdrew before ejaculation, but I'm not sure if I used the correct side of the condom).
Aside from using the condom, there were no other contraceptive measures.
Is there a risk in this situation? According to her, her period usually comes around the middle of the month, but there have been times when she hasn't had it for 2 to 3 months.

Hello, the questioner: There is a possibility of pregnancy even if ejaculation has not occurred during intercourse, as pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm.
It is recommended to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When it comes to the risk of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse, there are several factors to consider. Based on the scenario you've described, where you had intercourse with your girlfriend using a condom but are unsure if it was used correctly, there is indeed a potential risk of pregnancy.

Firstly, it's important to understand how condoms work. When used correctly, condoms are highly effective at preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). However, if the condom was not applied properly or if it broke during intercourse, the risk of pregnancy increases significantly. Additionally, even if you withdrew before ejaculation, pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, which also poses a risk of pregnancy.

In your case, since you mentioned uncertainty about whether the condom was used correctly, it is wise to consider the possibility of pregnancy. The timing of your girlfriend's menstrual cycle is also relevant. If her menstrual cycle is irregular, as you indicated, it may be difficult to predict ovulation accurately. Ovulation typically occurs around 14 days before the start of her next period, and if intercourse occurred close to this time, the likelihood of pregnancy increases.

If your girlfriend's period is due soon and she has not experienced any signs of menstruation, it would be advisable for her to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are generally reliable and can provide results as early as the first day of a missed period. If the test is positive, it would be prudent for her to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

In addition to the risk of pregnancy, it’s also important to consider the risk of STIs, especially if either partner has had previous sexual partners. Regular STI screenings and open communication about sexual health are essential components of a healthy sexual relationship.

If there is a concern about potential pregnancy after unprotected intercourse, emergency contraception (often referred to as the "morning-after pill") is an option that can be considered. It is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, ideally within 72 hours, but some forms can be effective up to five days later. However, it is not intended to be used as a regular form of contraception.

In summary, while the use of a condom significantly reduces the risk of pregnancy, any uncertainty about its use can lead to potential risks. Given your girlfriend's irregular menstrual cycle, it is advisable for her to take a pregnancy test if her period is late. Open communication about contraception and sexual health is crucial for both partners to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health.
