Can I get pregnant?

Hello doctor, a few days ago my girlfriend performed oral sex on me, and when I was cleaning up, my fingers came into contact with semen.
I then dried my fingers with tissue (without rinsing) and proceeded to remove her pants with my hands and inserted my fingers into her vagina for manual stimulation.
It was during her ovulation period.
I would like to know if there is a possibility of sperm surviving and causing pregnancy, even after slightly wiping and touching her clothing, considering it is a fertile period.

Cheng, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2023/03/12

Hello, the likelihood should be low.
If you're still concerned, you can take emergency contraception just in case.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the risk of pregnancy from oral sex and subsequent finger contact, it's essential to understand the biology of sperm and the conditions under which pregnancy can occur.
1. Sperm Viability: Sperm can survive outside the human body for a limited time, typically a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the environment. In a dry state, such as on a piece of tissue or clothing, sperm are unlikely to remain viable for long. If your fingers were only lightly contaminated with semen and then dried off with a tissue, the chances of any viable sperm being transferred to the vagina are minimal.
2. The Role of Lubrication: When engaging in sexual activities, the presence of bodily fluids can create a conducive environment for sperm. However, if the sperm is dried or has been wiped away, the likelihood of it being able to fertilize an egg is significantly reduced.
3. Timing and Ovulation: You mentioned that this occurred during your girlfriend's ovulation period. This is indeed the time when she is most fertile, and the risk of pregnancy is higher if viable sperm are introduced into the vagina. However, given the circumstances you've described—drying the fingers and the indirect contact with semen—the risk remains low.

4. Oral Sex and Pregnancy: It’s important to clarify that oral sex itself does not lead to pregnancy. The concern arises when there is potential transfer of sperm from the mouth or hands to the vagina. In your case, while there was contact with semen, the drying process and the indirect nature of the transfer significantly reduce the risk.

5. Precautions and Concerns: If you are still concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it may be wise to consider emergency contraception if this incident occurred within the appropriate time frame (typically within 72 hours). Additionally, if there are ongoing concerns about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider for testing and guidance.

6. Conclusion: Based on the information provided, while there is a theoretical risk due to the timing of ovulation, the practical risk of pregnancy from the scenario you described appears to be very low. If you or your girlfriend have further concerns, particularly regarding STIs or pregnancy, seeking advice from a healthcare professional is always a prudent step.

In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from the described scenario is low, it is essential to remain informed and cautious about sexual health practices. If you have any lingering doubts or questions, consulting with a healthcare provider can provide clarity and peace of mind.
