The date of conception and the due date?

I would like to ask the doctor: My menstrual cycle is very irregular, sometimes I don't get my period for a month or even two to almost three months.
When I do get my period, it lasts about five days.
I have been with my boyfriend for almost two years without using contraception and have not become pregnant.
On December 8, 2022, I had some bleeding that I thought was my period, but it was light pink and light brown.
On December 16 of the same year, I took a pregnancy test and it showed two lines.
I went to a gynecology clinic and was checked at six weeks.
I then switched to a larger gynecology hospital and was checked on January 3, 2023, at eight weeks, and again on January 17 at ten weeks.
I would like to ask the doctor when the estimated date of conception might be, approximately between which dates? Is it possible that the conception date was around October 28, or was it in early to mid-November? The due date based on the January 3 eight-week and January 17 ten-week checks is showing August 13.

QQ, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2023/05/10

If the ultrasound examination shows 8 weeks, that means conception likely occurred approximately 6 weeks ago, which is about 1/3 of the way back.

Understanding conception dates and due dates can be particularly challenging for individuals with irregular menstrual cycles. In your case, the irregularity of your cycle, where you experience significant variations in the timing of your periods, complicates the estimation of your ovulation and conception dates.
To begin with, let's clarify how conception is typically calculated. The most common method is to use the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) as a reference point. For women with regular cycles, ovulation usually occurs about 14 days after the first day of the last period. However, for those with irregular cycles, this method may not be as reliable.
In your situation, you mentioned that you experienced light bleeding on December 8, 2022, which you initially thought was your period. However, the nature of this bleeding (light pink and brown) could suggest it was not a typical menstrual period. You then took a pregnancy test on December 16, which showed two lines, indicating a positive result. Following this, ultrasounds conducted on January 3 and January 17 confirmed that you were approximately 8 weeks and 10 weeks pregnant, respectively.

To estimate your conception date, we can work backward from the ultrasound findings. If you were 8 weeks pregnant on January 3, this would place your estimated conception date around November 28, 2022. If you were 10 weeks pregnant on January 17, this would suggest a conception date around November 14, 2022. Given the discrepancies in the timing of your ultrasounds, it is likely that your conception occurred sometime between mid-November and late November.

Regarding your question about whether it is possible for the conception date to be October 28, it seems less likely based on the ultrasound data. The gestational age measured during ultrasounds is generally considered more accurate than calculations based solely on the LMP, especially in cases of irregular cycles. Therefore, it is more plausible that conception occurred in November rather than October.

As for your due date, the standard method for calculating this is to add 280 days (or 40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period. However, since your cycles are irregular, the due date may be adjusted based on ultrasound measurements, which are typically more reliable. In your case, the due date of August 13 aligns with the gestational age determined by your ultrasounds.

In summary, based on the information provided, it is likely that your conception occurred between mid-November and late November 2022, with a due date of August 13, 2023. If you have further questions or concerns about your pregnancy or menstrual cycle, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance and support. They can provide you with the most accurate information based on your specific circumstances and medical history.
