Low Semen Volume: A Guide for Young Men - Urology

Low semen volume?

Hello, Doctor Tsai.
I am currently almost 18 years old and in the second year of high school.
This question is a bit awkward, and I feel uncomfortable asking other male friends.
I have had a habit of masturbation since the summer of fifth grade, about 7-8 times a week.
During middle school, it increased to about 4-5 times a day.
When friends boast about being able to ejaculate 30cc, I once measured and found it to be only 7cc.
My erect penis size is 17.5 cm, but it is only 5 cm when not erect.
My friends even joked that I should see a doctor, which is really frustrating.
Doctor, is there really a problem with this? I started to experience voice changes, developed an Adam's apple, and grew pubic hair when I was just over 12 years old.
Thank you, Doctor.

Understanding low semen volume can be a concern for many young men, especially during the teenage years when sexual health and development are often topics of discussion among peers. It's important to approach this subject with a clear understanding of what is considered normal and what might warrant further investigation.

Firstly, it's essential to recognize that semen volume can vary significantly among individuals. The average volume of semen per ejaculation is typically between 2 to 5 milliliters (ml), which is roughly equivalent to about half a teaspoon to a teaspoon. Your reported volume of 7 cc (which is equivalent to 7 ml) is within the normal range, albeit on the lower end. It's also worth noting that factors such as hydration, frequency of ejaculation, and overall health can influence semen volume.

Frequent ejaculation, such as the 4-5 times a day you mentioned, can lead to a temporary decrease in semen volume. This is because the body needs time to replenish the seminal fluid. If you are ejaculating multiple times a day, it is possible that your body may not have enough time to produce a larger volume of semen for each ejaculation. This is a normal physiological response and not necessarily indicative of a health issue.

Regarding the concerns about penis size, it is important to understand that penis size can vary widely among individuals, and there is no "normal" size that one should aspire to. The average erect penis size is typically between 5 to 6 inches in length, and your measurement of 17.5 cm (approximately 6.9 inches) is above average. When flaccid, the size can also vary significantly, and it is common for flaccid sizes to be smaller than erect sizes. It's crucial to remember that penis size does not determine sexual ability or desirability, and many factors contribute to a fulfilling sexual experience.

If you are experiencing anxiety or distress regarding your sexual health or development, it may be beneficial to speak with a healthcare professional. They can provide personalized advice and reassurance. Additionally, if you notice any significant changes in your sexual health, such as pain during ejaculation, changes in libido, or other concerning symptoms, seeking medical advice is always a good idea.

In summary, your semen volume appears to be within a normal range, and your penis size is above average. Frequent ejaculation can temporarily reduce semen volume, which is a normal physiological response. If you have ongoing concerns or experience any unusual symptoms, consulting a healthcare provider can help address your worries and provide guidance tailored to your individual health needs. Remember, sexual health is a normal part of life, and seeking information and support is a positive step towards understanding your body better.

Hello, the normal volume of semen is approximately 3 to 10 milliliters. What is more important is the sperm count within the semen. As long as the count is sufficient, natural conception should be possible. It is recommended to undergo a semen analysis.
