Are you pregnant?

The menstrual cycle occurs approximately every 37 days, lasting about 5 days.
The day after menstruation ended, my boyfriend rubbed against me through my underwear without ejaculation, but there was pre-ejaculate fluid (which may have touched the outer layer of my underwear, though I'm unsure if it penetrated to the inner layer).
I also experienced some discharge.
About 25 minutes later, I wiped the area around my genitals with tissue and changed my underwear.
I would like to know if there is a possibility of pregnancy, as I found cases online where pregnancy occurred even with rubbing through underwear and no ejaculation, which has made me anxious.
Thank you very much for your response, doctor.

When it comes to the possibility of pregnancy following intimate contact, especially when there are uncertainties about the nature of that contact, it’s essential to understand the mechanics of conception and the risks involved. In your case, you mentioned that your menstrual cycle is approximately 37 days long, and you engaged in intimate contact with your boyfriend shortly after your period ended. This context is crucial for assessing the likelihood of pregnancy.

First, let’s clarify the mechanics of conception. Pregnancy occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, which typically happens during ovulation. For someone with a 37-day cycle, ovulation usually occurs around 21 days after the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), assuming a consistent cycle. If your cycle is regular, you would likely ovulate around the 21st day, which means that the days leading up to ovulation are your most fertile days.
In your situation, you had intimate contact where there was no ejaculation, but you noted the presence of pre-ejaculate fluid (also known as pre-cum). This fluid can contain sperm, although the concentration is generally lower than in ejaculate. The risk of pregnancy from pre-ejaculate is not zero, especially if it comes into contact with the vaginal area, even indirectly through clothing. However, the likelihood of pregnancy from such contact is significantly lower than from direct ejaculation.

You also mentioned that you wiped the area and changed your underwear about 25 minutes after the contact. This action may reduce the risk of sperm remaining in the area that could potentially lead to fertilization. However, it’s important to note that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for several days, so the timing relative to your ovulation cycle is critical.

Given your concerns, it’s understandable to feel anxious about the possibility of pregnancy. The best course of action is to monitor your body for any signs of pregnancy, such as a missed period, and consider taking a home pregnancy test if your period is late. Most home pregnancy tests are reliable and can detect pregnancy as early as the first day of a missed period.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are unsure about your pregnancy status, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can offer a more accurate assessment and guidance based on your specific circumstances. Additionally, if you are sexually active and wish to avoid unintended pregnancies in the future, discussing contraceptive options with a healthcare professional can provide you with effective methods to manage your reproductive health.

In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy from the scenario you described, it is relatively low given the circumstances. Monitoring your menstrual cycle and being aware of your body’s signals will be key in determining your next steps. If you have further concerns or if your anxiety persists, seeking professional medical advice is always a prudent choice.
