Can I get pregnant?
On July 24, I had unprotected intercourse with my boyfriend, and the Little Calendar app indicates a low chance of pregnancy.
On July 31, my period started, but the flow was very light, and the blood color changed from red to brown.
On August 1, the blood was brown, and I experienced mild abdominal pain, then the blood turned red again.
By August 2, my period ended after only three days.
Should I take a pregnancy test? I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and am currently taking traditional Chinese medicine for regulation.
Could this be due to hormonal imbalance? My periods in May and June lasted six days, and I currently have no symptoms of pregnancy.

Hello, it is recommended to practice safe behaviors to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections, while also preventing unintended pregnancies.
If there is a delay in your menstrual cycle, you can take a home pregnancy test or visit a gynecologist for confirmation.
Thank you.

When it comes to determining whether you might be pregnant, especially in the context of irregular menstrual cycles and various symptoms, it's essential to consider a few key factors. Based on your description, you had unprotected intercourse on July 24, and while your app indicated a low probability of pregnancy, you experienced a menstrual period starting on July 31. However, the characteristics of this period—specifically, its light flow and the change in color from bright red to brown—raise some questions.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that menstrual cycles can vary significantly from month to month, especially in individuals with conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which you mentioned you have. PCOS can lead to irregular periods, hormonal imbalances, and sometimes lighter menstrual flows. The symptoms you described, such as the brief duration of your period and the color changes, could be indicative of hormonal fluctuations rather than a definitive sign of pregnancy.
In general, if you have a regular menstrual cycle, a missed period is often the first sign of pregnancy. However, since your cycles are irregular, it can be more challenging to determine if a missed period is due to pregnancy or other factors such as stress, hormonal imbalances, or changes in lifestyle.
Given that you had a menstrual period, albeit a light one, it is less likely that you are pregnant. However, some women do experience light bleeding in early pregnancy, which can sometimes be mistaken for a period. This is known as implantation bleeding, which occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus.
To answer your question about whether you should take a pregnancy test: if your next period is delayed or if you experience any pregnancy symptoms (such as nausea, breast tenderness, or fatigue), it would be advisable to take a pregnancy test. Most home pregnancy tests are quite sensitive and can detect pregnancy as early as the first day of a missed period. If you choose to test now, keep in mind that testing too early can result in a false negative, especially if your hormone levels are not yet high enough to be detected.
Additionally, since you are currently taking herbal medicine to regulate your menstrual cycle, it’s important to consider how these treatments might affect your hormonal balance. If you suspect that your symptoms are related to hormonal issues rather than pregnancy, it may be beneficial to consult with your healthcare provider. They can offer guidance on managing your PCOS and any underlying hormonal imbalances, as well as provide advice on the best time to take a pregnancy test based on your individual situation.
In summary, while your recent menstrual flow and the absence of typical pregnancy symptoms suggest that you may not be pregnant, monitoring your cycle and any changes in your body is crucial. If you have concerns about your menstrual irregularities or potential pregnancy, a visit to your healthcare provider would be a prudent step. They can provide personalized advice and possibly conduct further testing to clarify your situation.
