Fear of becoming pregnant?
Hello doctor, I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend on May 24 without using a condom, but there was no ejaculation inside.
After that, my period came around May 31.
Then, around June 20, I experienced some light bleeding again, and I'm not sure if it was leftover from my previous period or something else.
My menstrual cycle is not very regular; it usually comes at the end of each month, occasionally a few days late.
However, now it's the end of July, and my period still hasn't arrived.
A few days ago, I had persistent constipation, which made my abdomen feel uncomfortable, but today I've been able to have bowel movements, sometimes with diarrhea.
My abdomen has been bloated all day, and my stomach feels uneasy, making me not want to eat at times.
I've been feeling anxious, and I'm really worried that I might be pregnant.
I would like to ask the doctor if, given these circumstances, there is a possibility of pregnancy, or if my period is just delayed.
If I use a pregnancy test now, will it be accurate? Thank you, doctor!

Hello, based on your description, there is a possibility of pregnancy.
Your menstrual cycle is currently irregular and overdue, and it is not possible to determine pregnancy solely based on subjective symptoms.
I recommend that you take a urine test to check for pregnancy or consult a physician to investigate the cause of the irregularity, to avoid encountering the same issues in the future.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

It sounds like you're experiencing a lot of uncertainty and anxiety regarding your potential pregnancy, especially given your irregular menstrual cycle and the symptoms you're describing. Let's break down your concerns and provide some clarity.
1. Understanding Your Cycle and Symptoms: Irregular periods can complicate the understanding of whether you are pregnant. If you had unprotected intercourse on May 24 and your period arrived on May 31, it is likely that you were not pregnant at that time. However, the spotting you experienced around June 20 could be due to various reasons, including hormonal fluctuations, ovulation bleeding, or even the onset of your period. Since your menstrual cycle is not regular, it can be challenging to pinpoint ovulation and conception.
2. Missed Period: You mentioned that your period has not arrived by the end of July. A missed period is one of the most common early signs of pregnancy. However, stress, changes in weight, illness, or hormonal imbalances can also cause missed periods. Given your irregular cycle, it’s essential to consider these factors as well.
3. Symptoms of Pregnancy: The symptoms you describe, such as abdominal discomfort, constipation, and changes in appetite, can be associated with early pregnancy, but they can also be attributed to other factors like stress or gastrointestinal issues. The anxiety you're feeling can exacerbate physical symptoms, leading to a cycle of discomfort and worry.
4. Using a Pregnancy Test: Home pregnancy tests are generally reliable and can detect pregnancy hormones (hCG) in your urine. For the most accurate result, it is recommended to wait until at least the first day of your missed period to take a test. If your cycle is irregular, you might want to wait a week after your expected period date for the best accuracy. If you test too early, you might get a false negative result.
5. Next Steps: If you take a pregnancy test and it is positive, or if you continue to experience symptoms and are concerned, it would be wise to schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test for pregnancy, which is more sensitive than a urine test, and can also help evaluate your symptoms.
6. Managing Anxiety: It’s completely normal to feel anxious about the possibility of being pregnant, especially if you are not prepared for it. Consider talking to someone you trust about your feelings, whether it’s a friend, family member, or a healthcare professional. They can provide support and help you navigate your concerns.
In summary, while your symptoms and missed period could suggest pregnancy, they could also be due to other factors. Taking a home pregnancy test after waiting a bit longer will provide you with more clarity. Regardless of the outcome, seeking guidance from a healthcare professional can help you understand your body better and address any health concerns you may have.
