Are you pregnant?
Hello, I would like to ask about my menstrual cycle, which has always been irregular and easily affected by external stress.
I have a cold constitution.
In the past few months, the first days of my menstrual period were on 4/7, 5/18, 6/22, 7/25, no period in August, and 9/12.
I am getting married in late September.
During this period, my husband and I have not been very successful in intimacy (due to pain, I can count the occurrences on my fingers).
My husband has penetrated but has not ejaculated (it has been too long for me to tolerate).
After getting married, I did not pay attention to my diet and consumed too many cold-natured foods, which has led to persistent coughing.
By October, my period still hadn't arrived (the last time we were intimate was around 10/19 or 20).
I took pregnancy tests on 10/22 and 10/24, which only showed one line.
However, on 10/27, I started noticing brown spotting on my underwear, and there was some on the sanitary pad as well.
After using the restroom, I also noticed a little when I wiped, but it wasn't much.
Last night, I tested again and saw a faint second line.
This morning, I tested once more, and the second line was almost invisible (only visible under strong light).
I am very anxious—am I pregnant? (I have a fear of pregnancy) Or is this just due to dietary issues causing my irregular period? Thank you.

Hello: (1) Based on your menstrual dates, your menstrual cycle is relatively regular, although it is on the longer side, occurring approximately every 35 to 45 days.
(2) Current pregnancy tests are quite sensitive, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels in urine above 25-50 mIU/ml can be detected.
This means that a positive result can typically be obtained about 7 to 10 days after conception.
Given your situation, the likelihood of pregnancy is quite high, and retesting in a week should provide confirmation.
Thank you for your message!

More Info
Based on the information you've provided, it seems you are experiencing a complex situation regarding your menstrual cycle, potential pregnancy, and overall health. Let's break down your concerns and provide some clarity.
Irregular Periods and Pregnancy Signs
1. Irregular Menstrual Cycle: It is common for many women to experience irregular menstrual cycles, especially if they are under stress or have underlying health conditions. Factors such as stress, dietary habits, and physical health can significantly affect your cycle. In your case, you mentioned a "cold body constitution" and consuming cold foods, which may also contribute to your irregular periods.
2. Pregnancy Testing: You have conducted several pregnancy tests, with mixed results. A faint line on a pregnancy test can indicate a possible pregnancy, but it can also be a sign of a very early pregnancy or a chemical pregnancy (where the pregnancy does not progress). The timing of your tests is crucial; testing too early can lead to false negatives. If your period is late and you are experiencing any signs of pregnancy (like the brown discharge you mentioned), it may be worth repeating the test a few days later or consulting a healthcare provider for a blood test, which is more sensitive than urine tests.
3. Brown Discharge: The brown discharge you are experiencing could be implantation bleeding, which occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. However, it can also be a sign of an upcoming period or other hormonal changes, especially given your irregular cycle. If the discharge continues or is accompanied by pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention.
4. Diet and Health: You mentioned that your diet has not been optimal, which can affect your menstrual cycle and overall health. A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential for reproductive health. Consider incorporating foods that are warm in nature and avoid excessive cold foods, as you noted that you have a "cold body constitution." Foods like ginger, cinnamon, and warm soups can be beneficial.
5. Anxiety About Pregnancy: It's understandable to feel anxious about the possibility of being pregnant, especially if you are not ready for it. If you are experiencing fear or anxiety about pregnancy, it might be helpful to talk to a healthcare professional or a counselor who can provide support and guidance.
Recommendations
- Repeat Pregnancy Test: Wait a few days and take another pregnancy test, preferably with the first morning urine, which is more concentrated.
- Consult a Healthcare Provider: Given your irregular cycles and the symptoms you are experiencing, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test to confirm pregnancy and evaluate your overall reproductive health.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any additional symptoms you may experience, such as changes in discharge, abdominal pain, or other unusual signs, and report these to your healthcare provider.
- Healthy Lifestyle: Focus on a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management techniques to help regulate your menstrual cycle and improve your overall health.
In conclusion, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given your symptoms, the irregularity of your menstrual cycle and the faintness of the test lines suggest that further evaluation is necessary. Consulting with a healthcare provider will provide you with the most accurate information and peace of mind.
