Weight loss
Hello Doctor, on August 25th, I weighed 92.8 kg (on the fourth day of my menstrual period).
On August 28th, my weight was 91.5 kg (on the seventh day of my menstrual period), and today, August 29th, my weight is 90.9 kg.
I have recently been controlling my diet (eating whole foods, cutting out sugar, slightly reducing portion sizes, and drinking 3000 cc of water daily) along with aerobic exercise like brisk walking.
I would like to know if this weight loss is normal and if there could be any gastrointestinal issues.
Thank you for your response, Doctor.

Hello: The typical rate of weight loss for individuals with a normal weight is about 0.5 to 1 kilogram per week.
Based on your description, a loss of 1.9 kilograms in just four days is somewhat excessive.
However, it is more common to see such fluctuations due to exercise and dehydration.
If you are not experiencing any significant discomfort, you may continue to monitor and track your weight.
It is advisable to measure your weight at a consistent time, preferably after waking up, for more accurate comparisons.

Weight loss can be a complex issue, and understanding whether your weight loss is normal or indicative of a potential health problem requires a nuanced approach. Based on your description, you have experienced a weight decrease from 92.8 kg to 90.9 kg over a few days, which is approximately 1.9 kg in about four days. This rapid change can be concerning, but it is essential to consider several factors.
Firstly, fluctuations in weight can be influenced by various factors, including water retention, hormonal changes, dietary intake, and physical activity levels. For instance, you mentioned that your weight was measured during your menstrual cycle, which can significantly affect water retention and, consequently, your weight. Many women experience weight fluctuations during their menstrual cycle due to hormonal changes that can lead to temporary water retention or loss.
Your approach to weight loss, which includes dietary control by consuming whole foods, reducing sugar intake, and increasing your water consumption to 3000 cc daily, is commendable. These practices can contribute to healthy weight loss. Additionally, incorporating aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking, is beneficial for overall health and can aid in weight management.
However, it is crucial to ensure that your weight loss is sustainable and not too rapid. A general guideline for healthy weight loss is about 0.5 to 1 kg per week. Losing weight too quickly can lead to muscle loss, nutritional deficiencies, and other health issues. In your case, losing nearly 2 kg in just a few days may be more than what is typically recommended, especially if it is not accompanied by a significant change in your overall lifestyle or caloric intake.
Regarding your concern about gastrointestinal issues, while rapid weight loss can sometimes be associated with underlying health problems, such as gastrointestinal disorders, it is essential to consider your overall health status. If you are not experiencing any gastrointestinal symptoms, such as persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, or changes in appetite, it may be less likely that you have a serious condition. However, if you have any concerns or if your weight loss continues at this pace without a clear reason, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation.
In summary, while some weight fluctuation is normal, especially during menstrual cycles, the rate at which you are losing weight may warrant attention. It is essential to monitor your weight loss and ensure it aligns with healthy practices. If you continue to experience rapid weight loss or have any concerning symptoms, seeking advice from a healthcare provider is advisable. They can help assess your situation more comprehensively and provide personalized recommendations to ensure your weight loss journey is both healthy and sustainable.
