Could you please tell me which day the conception occurred?

Hello Doctor, I am currently pregnant and would like to know when the conception date was.
Also, is the child likely to be from Male A or Male B? Thank you.
I went to the obstetrics and gynecology clinic on the 1st of the month and was 5 weeks and 1 day pregnant.
My last menstrual period started on February 16.
The due date is November 30.
I had sexual intercourse with Male A during the days around my menstrual period from February 16 to February 19, but after February 23, I only had intercourse with Male B.
Can you please tell me if the child could possibly be from Male A or is it more likely to be from Male B? Thank you for your response, Doctor.

Determining the exact date of conception and paternity during pregnancy can be quite complex, especially when there are multiple sexual partners involved around the time of ovulation. Based on the information you've provided, let's break down the factors that influence conception date and paternity determination.

1. Understanding the Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation: The menstrual cycle typically lasts about 28 days, but variations are common. Ovulation usually occurs about 14 days before the start of the next menstrual period. Given that your last menstrual period (LMP) was on February 16, if you have a regular cycle, ovulation likely occurred around February 28. This is the time when you would be most fertile.

2. Timing of Sexual Intercourse: You mentioned having sexual intercourse with Male A during your menstrual period (February 16-19) and then with Male B starting February 23. If ovulation occurred around February 28, the likelihood of conception from intercourse with Male A during your period is lower, as sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, but the chances of fertilization are significantly reduced during menstruation. Intercourse with Male B after February 23 is more likely to coincide with your ovulation window.

3. Calculating Conception Date: Based on your LMP of February 16 and the typical ovulation cycle, conception would most likely have occurred around February 28. If you had sexual intercourse with Male B after this date, it increases the likelihood that he is the biological father. However, without a paternity test, it is impossible to definitively determine the father.

4. Ultrasound Dating: You mentioned that during your visit on April 1, you were measured at 5 weeks and 1 day pregnant. This aligns with the conception date of late February, supporting the idea that conception likely occurred around that time. Ultrasound measurements are generally considered accurate for dating pregnancies, especially in the first trimester.

5. Paternity Testing: If there is uncertainty about paternity, the most reliable way to determine the biological father is through a paternity test. This can be done during pregnancy through non-invasive prenatal paternity testing (NIPP) or after the child is born through DNA testing. NIPP involves analyzing the fetal DNA present in the mother's blood, which can provide results with a high degree of accuracy.

6. Emotional Considerations: It’s important to acknowledge the emotional aspects of this situation. Navigating relationships and potential paternity issues can be stressful. Open communication with both partners may help alleviate some concerns, and seeking support from friends, family, or a counselor can also be beneficial.

In conclusion, based on the timing of your menstrual cycle, ovulation, and sexual activity, it appears that the child is more likely to be the biological offspring of Male B, given the timing of intercourse relative to ovulation. However, for absolute certainty, a paternity test would be the best course of action. It's essential to approach this situation with care and consideration for all parties involved.
