Mouth ulcer issues?

1.
I noticed my mouth ulcer on November 1, 2023.
My family visited a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who prescribed a powder medication for the ulcer.
I applied it during the day, and it helped significantly.
At night, I used an oral patch called "Koushu Ruan Mouth Ulcer Tablets." Here is the link: https://www.shiteh.com.tw/product/%E5%8F%A3%E8%88%92%E7%88%BD%E5%98%B4%E7%A0%B4%E5%8F%A3%E8%85%94%E9%8C%A0-5.html
2.
On November 7, 2023, I took a photo (attached) showing the area I circled.
Does this indicate that it is healing quickly? Here is the link to the photo: https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNRPY1p7wSNpnEv_7Agx0hiUPakwOGLKEkMydKg
3.
At first, eating was painful when food touched the ulcer.
Now, there is no pain, but I tested the area with a little salt to see if it would hurt, and there was still a slight pain.
I rinsed my mouth immediately with water to remove the salt after less than a minute.

More Info

Mouth ulcers, also known as canker sores, can be quite painful and disruptive to daily activities, especially when it comes to eating and speaking. Understanding the healing process and treatment options is crucial for managing this condition effectively.

Understanding Mouth Ulcers
Mouth ulcers are small, painful lesions that can develop on the soft tissues of the mouth, including the inside of the cheeks, gums, tongue, and lips. They can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, hormonal changes, certain foods, and underlying health conditions such as autoimmune diseases or nutritional deficiencies. In your case, it seems that you have been experiencing a mouth ulcer since November 1, 2023, and have sought treatment from both traditional Chinese medicine and over-the-counter products.

Treatment Options
1. Topical Treatments: You mentioned using a powder prescribed by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and a mouth patch that contains soothing ingredients. These topical treatments can help reduce pain and promote healing. Products that contain ingredients like benzocaine or lidocaine can numb the area, providing temporary relief from pain.

2. Oral Hygiene: Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential when dealing with mouth ulcers. Rinsing your mouth with a mild saltwater solution can help keep the area clean and may promote healing. However, as you experienced, applying salt directly to the ulcer can cause pain. It’s best to use a diluted solution for rinsing rather than applying salt directly.

3. Dietary Adjustments: Avoiding spicy, acidic, or abrasive foods can help minimize irritation to the ulcer. Soft foods that are easy to swallow can be beneficial during the healing process.
4. Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can help manage discomfort associated with mouth ulcers.
5. Hydration: Staying hydrated is important, especially if eating is painful. Drinking plenty of water can help keep your mouth moist and may aid in the healing process.

Healing Progress
From your description, it sounds like you are noticing some improvement in your mouth ulcer. The fact that you are experiencing less pain when eating and that the ulcer appears to be healing is a positive sign. Typically, mouth ulcers can take anywhere from one to two weeks to heal completely, depending on their size and the individual’s overall health.

The presence of a little pain when testing with salt is not uncommon, as the ulcer may still be sensitive. It’s important to avoid irritating the ulcer further, as this can prolong the healing process.

When to Seek Further Medical Attention
If the ulcer does not show signs of healing after two weeks, or if you experience severe pain, difficulty swallowing, or any other concerning symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They may perform further evaluations to rule out underlying conditions, such as infections or autoimmune disorders.

Conclusion
In summary, mouth ulcers can be quite bothersome, but with proper care and treatment, they typically heal within a couple of weeks. Utilizing topical treatments, maintaining good oral hygiene, and making dietary adjustments can significantly aid in the healing process. If you continue to experience pain or if the ulcer does not improve, seeking medical advice is crucial to ensure there are no underlying issues that need to be addressed.
