Two weeks after the car accident, the calf is still very swollen?
Hello, I would like to ask, two weeks after my car accident, I still have a bump that feels like there is fluid inside.
The surrounding area is red, and the center is white.
Should I see a doctor, or will it resolve on its own? Also, the muscle in that area feels very stiff, and it takes a while to return to normal after pressing on it.
It still hurts a bit when I press on it, but the skin's surface seems to be mostly healed.
Thank you for your clarification!

After a car accident, persistent swelling and pain in the leg can be concerning, especially if it has been two weeks since the incident. The symptoms you describe—a lump that feels like it has fluid inside, surrounding redness, and a white center—suggest that you may be dealing with a hematoma or a localized collection of fluid, possibly due to soft tissue injury or inflammation.
In the context of a car accident, soft tissue injuries are common and can lead to various complications, including swelling, bruising, and pain. The swelling you are experiencing could be due to fluid accumulation in the tissues, which is often a result of the body's inflammatory response to injury. The redness around the lump may indicate inflammation, and the white center could suggest necrosis or a healing process where the body is trying to repair the damaged tissue.
It is important to note that while some swelling and discomfort can be expected after a soft tissue injury, persistent swelling that does not improve over time may require medical evaluation. The fact that the muscle area feels stiff and lacks elasticity, along with pain upon pressure, indicates that there may be ongoing inflammation or even muscle strain.
In general, soft tissue injuries can take several weeks to heal, but if you notice that the swelling is not subsiding, or if the pain worsens, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare professional can perform a physical examination and may recommend imaging studies, such as an ultrasound or MRI, to assess the extent of the injury and rule out any complications, such as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or a more serious underlying condition.
In addition, if you are experiencing significant pain, difficulty moving the affected leg, or if you notice any signs of infection (such as increased redness, warmth, or discharge from the area), you should seek medical care promptly. It is better to err on the side of caution when it comes to potential complications from injuries sustained in a car accident.
In summary, while some swelling and discomfort can be normal after a car accident, persistent symptoms warrant a visit to a healthcare provider. They can provide a thorough assessment and appropriate treatment options to facilitate your recovery. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes and prevent long-term complications.
