Implantation failure?
Hello, I would like to ask about my situation.
My boyfriend and I have not used any protection during intercourse, and we have been having unprotected sex during the fertile period for almost two years.
This time, my period is 11 days late.
I took pregnancy tests on the 5th and 8th days, and both showed a single line.
I thought I would wait a bit longer because I have been experiencing abdominal cramping and back pain.
My periods are usually very regular and never late.
On the 11th day, I went to the bathroom and still did not see my period.
Later, after jumping down some stairs, I started bleeding, which resembles my menstrual flow, changing from brown to red.
Could this bleeding be due to the jump causing a failed implantation? Does this count as a miscarriage, or is it just that my period has finally arrived?
Wang, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2023/11/26

Hello, the early stages of pregnancy may not necessarily present specific symptoms, and subjective symptoms alone cannot be used to make a determination.
There are many causes for bleeding outside of the menstrual period (such as lesions in the reproductive organs, pregnancy, hormonal imbalances, etc.).
It is advisable to consult a physician to investigate the cause of the bleeding.
Thank you! Wishing you safety and health.

More Info
Implantation failure is indeed a possibility, and it can be a source of confusion and concern for many individuals trying to conceive. In your case, the delayed period and the symptoms you experienced could be related to various factors, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, or even the natural variability of your menstrual cycle.
When you mention that you and your boyfriend have been engaging in unprotected intercourse during your fertile window for two years, it's important to consider that conception can sometimes take longer than expected. The fact that your period is delayed by 11 days is significant, especially if you typically have a regular cycle. However, the negative pregnancy tests you took on days 5 and 8 after your missed period suggest that you may not be pregnant.
The symptoms you described, such as abdominal pain and back pain, can be associated with both early pregnancy and the onset of menstruation. It's not uncommon for women to experience cramping or discomfort as their period approaches. The brownish discharge you observed before the bleeding started is often referred to as "spotting," which can occur for various reasons, including hormonal changes or the beginning of your menstrual cycle.
Regarding your question about whether jumping could cause implantation failure, it's important to clarify that once implantation occurs, physical activity typically does not affect the pregnancy. However, if implantation has not occurred, then the act of jumping would not be a factor in that failure. Implantation usually occurs about 6 to 10 days after ovulation, and if it does not happen, menstruation will follow as the body sheds the uterine lining.
If you are experiencing bleeding that resembles your normal menstrual flow, it is likely that your period has arrived rather than a miscarriage. A miscarriage typically involves more severe cramping and bleeding, often accompanied by the passing of tissue. If you are uncertain about your symptoms or if they worsen, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
In summary, while implantation failure is a possibility, the symptoms and timeline you described suggest that your body may simply be experiencing a delayed menstrual cycle. Factors such as stress, hormonal changes, or even lifestyle factors can contribute to irregularities in your cycle. If you continue to have concerns about your menstrual health or fertility, seeking guidance from a healthcare provider can provide you with personalized advice and support. They can also conduct further tests if necessary to rule out any underlying issues.
