I don't know if I might be pregnant?

I would like to ask about having sexual intercourse on November 25 and 26, after my period ended on November 23.
The male partner did not use a condom, but I am not sure if what I saw was semen; it looked transparent.
It seems like there was only contact with the buttocks, and I also took a shower afterward.
I am unsure if this could lead to pregnancy, but since I am a minor, I am hesitant to directly consult a doctor at the hospital.
Thank you for your help.

Y, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2023/11/26

When it comes to the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex, it is essential to understand the various factors involved. Based on your description, you engaged in sexual activity on November 25 and 26, shortly after your menstrual period ended on November 23. You mentioned that the male partner did not use a condom and that you are unsure if any semen was involved, as it appeared to be a clear fluid that may have only come into contact with your buttocks.
Firstly, it is important to clarify that pregnancy can occur if sperm comes into contact with the vaginal area, even if penetration did not happen. Sperm can be present in pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre-cum), which can be released before ejaculation. If this fluid came into contact with the vaginal area, there is a potential risk of pregnancy, albeit it may be lower than if ejaculation occurred directly in the vagina.

Given that your menstrual cycle just ended, you might be in a less fertile period, but it is crucial to note that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days. Therefore, if you ovulate shortly after your period, there is still a possibility of becoming pregnant.

You mentioned that you washed afterward, which is a common concern. However, washing the external genital area does not guarantee that sperm has been completely removed or that it will prevent pregnancy. Sperm can swim and may still reach the cervix if it was in the vicinity.

Considering your situation, if you are worried about the possibility of pregnancy, it is advisable to take a home pregnancy test if your period is late. Most home pregnancy tests are reliable and can detect pregnancy about a week after a missed period. If you are still uncertain or anxious, seeking advice from a healthcare professional is a good idea, even if you feel hesitant due to your age. Many clinics offer confidential services for young individuals, and they can provide you with accurate information and support.

If you are within 72 hours of the sexual encounter and are concerned about the risk of pregnancy, you may also consider emergency contraception (commonly known as the "morning-after pill"). This can significantly reduce the risk of pregnancy if taken within the appropriate time frame. It is available over the counter in many places, but it is always best to consult with a healthcare provider to discuss your options and any potential side effects.

In summary, while the risk of pregnancy may be lower given the circumstances you described, it is not zero. Monitoring your menstrual cycle and taking a pregnancy test if your period is late will provide clarity. Additionally, if you have any further concerns about sexual health or contraception, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for guidance. Remember, it is essential to prioritize your health and well-being, and seeking help is a responsible step.
