A lump has formed on the penis?

I recently noticed something that looks like a pimple on my penis.
When I squeezed it, a white substance came out, and later it became swollen in a small area.
After squeezing, a small part of it bled, and it hurts when I touch it.
Is this normal?

When it comes to unusual bumps on the penis, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and an understanding of potential causes and treatments. The symptoms you describe—a bump that resembles a pimple, which can be squeezed to release a white substance, followed by swelling, pain, and bleeding—could indicate a few different conditions.

One common cause of such bumps is a sebaceous cyst or epidermoid cyst. These are benign growths that can occur when sebaceous glands become blocked. They often contain a thick, yellowish substance known as keratin, which can appear white when squeezed. While these cysts are generally harmless, they can become inflamed or infected, leading to pain, swelling, and sometimes bleeding if the cyst is manipulated too aggressively.

Another possibility is pearly penile papules, which are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are a normal anatomical variation and do not require treatment unless they become bothersome.

However, the symptoms you describe—particularly the pain and bleeding—suggest that there may be an infection or inflammation involved. This could be due to a folliculitis, which is an infection of the hair follicles, or a pustule, which is a small inflamed blister filled with pus. Both conditions can cause discomfort and may require treatment, especially if they do not resolve on their own.

In some cases, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can also present with bumps or lesions on the genital area. Conditions such as genital herpes or molluscum contagiosum can cause similar symptoms. If the bump is accompanied by other symptoms such as itching, burning, or unusual discharge, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.

Treatment Options
1. Observation: If the bump is not causing significant pain or discomfort, and if it appears to be a benign cyst or papule, it may be best to monitor it for changes.

2. Warm Compresses: Applying a warm compress to the area can help reduce inflammation and promote drainage if the bump is an infected cyst.

3. Topical Treatments: If there is an infection, a healthcare provider may recommend topical antibiotics or antiseptics to help clear the infection.

4. Oral Antibiotics: In cases of significant infection or if the bump does not improve with topical treatments, oral antibiotics may be necessary.

5. Surgical Removal: If the cyst is recurrent, painful, or infected, a healthcare provider may recommend surgical removal to prevent further issues.

When to Seek Medical Attention
It is advisable to seek medical attention if:
- The bump continues to grow or change in appearance.

- You experience increasing pain, swelling, or redness.

- There is persistent bleeding or discharge.

- You develop additional symptoms such as fever, chills, or systemic signs of infection.

In conclusion, while some bumps on the penis can be benign and self-limiting, the symptoms you describe warrant a careful evaluation by a healthcare professional. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend the most appropriate treatment based on the specific condition. Remember, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to changes in your health, especially in sensitive areas.
