Can the autologous fat graft be extracted again after the procedure?
I have previously undergone autologous fat transfer to the buttocks (buttock augmentation), but over time (more than 5 years), the augmentation has turned into a larger buttock with an undesirable shape, which I am increasingly dissatisfied with.
Can I use laser lipolysis combined with drainage to remove the fat? Compared to individuals who have not undergone surgery, what additional risks might this pose? Thank you very much for your response, doctor!

When it comes to the question of whether you can remove fat after an autologous fat transfer to the buttocks, there are several important factors to consider. Autologous fat transfer, commonly known as fat grafting, involves taking fat from one part of the body and injecting it into another area, such as the buttocks, to enhance volume and shape. Over time, the body can change, and the results of such procedures may not always remain as desired.
If you find that the results of your fat transfer have changed significantly over the years, leading to dissatisfaction with the appearance of your buttocks, you may be considering options like laser lipolysis or liposuction to remove excess fat. Laser lipolysis uses laser energy to break down fat cells, which can then be removed through suction. This method is less invasive than traditional liposuction and can result in less downtime.
However, there are risks associated with performing additional procedures on an area that has already undergone fat grafting. One of the primary concerns is the potential for complications such as infection, irregularities in contour, or changes in skin texture. The presence of previously injected fat can complicate the anatomy of the area, making it more challenging for the surgeon to achieve a smooth and aesthetically pleasing result. Additionally, the healing process may be different due to the altered tissue structure from the initial fat transfer.
It is also essential to consider the overall health of the tissue in the area. If the fat that was initially transferred has not integrated well or has been reabsorbed unevenly, this could affect the outcome of any subsequent procedures. Furthermore, the risk of complications may be higher in individuals who have had previous surgeries in the same area compared to those who have not undergone any surgical procedures.
Before proceeding with any additional treatments, it is crucial to have a thorough consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in body contouring and fat transfer procedures. They can assess your specific situation, discuss your aesthetic goals, and recommend the best course of action. They may also suggest alternative options, such as non-surgical treatments like ultrasound or radiofrequency therapy, which can help improve skin texture and tighten the area without the need for invasive procedures.
In summary, while it is possible to remove fat after an autologous fat transfer to the buttocks, it is essential to weigh the potential risks and benefits carefully. Consulting with a qualified surgeon will provide you with the best guidance tailored to your individual needs and help you achieve the desired results safely. Remember that every surgical procedure carries inherent risks, and understanding these risks is vital in making an informed decision about your body and aesthetic goals.
