Pregnant? Menstruation?

Before September 6 of last year, my menstrual cycle was relatively regular, approximately every 30 days.
However, after September 6, my period was delayed for 53 days and arrived on October 29.
I took a pregnancy test on October 20, which was negative.
The next period came after another 36 days on December 4.
During this time, I had intimate relations on December 1 with protection.
Since my period on December 4, I have not menstruated for about 56 days as of January 29.
On December 29, I had protected intercourse, and around January 1, I felt like my period was about to start, but it did not come.
This sensation lasted for several days.
Around January 16, I experienced some abdominal discomfort, but I am unsure if it was menstrual pain.
I have continued to feel like my period might come, but it has not.
Since December 29, there have been no intimate relations.
Doctor, is there a possibility that I could be pregnant? Or could my anxiety about not having my period be affecting me? What could be causing these sensations that feel like my period is coming? Thank you, doctor.

More Info

When it comes to understanding whether a missed period is due to pregnancy or other factors, it’s essential to consider various aspects of your menstrual cycle, sexual activity, and overall health. Based on the information you've provided, it appears that you have experienced irregularities in your menstrual cycle, which can be influenced by several factors, including stress, hormonal changes, and lifestyle habits.

Firstly, let's address the possibility of pregnancy. You mentioned that you had a pregnancy test on October 20, which was negative, and you have engaged in sexual activity with protection on December 29. Given that you have not had any sexual intercourse since then, the likelihood of pregnancy from that encounter is low, especially if the condom was used correctly. However, it’s important to note that no contraceptive method is 100% effective, and if you have concerns about potential pregnancy, taking another home pregnancy test could provide clarity. It’s generally recommended to wait at least a week after a missed period for the most accurate results.

Now, regarding your menstrual cycle irregularities, it’s not uncommon for women to experience fluctuations in their cycle due to various factors. Stress is a significant contributor to menstrual irregularities. High levels of stress can lead to hormonal imbalances, which may delay ovulation and, consequently, your period. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as changes in diet, exercise, sleep patterns, and overall health can also impact your menstrual cycle. For instance, if you have been experiencing anxiety or stress about your missed period, this could further exacerbate the situation, leading to a cycle of worry that may delay menstruation even more.

The sensations you describe, such as feeling like your period is about to start, could be attributed to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or other hormonal fluctuations. PMS can cause a variety of symptoms, including bloating, cramping, mood swings, and breast tenderness, which can mimic the feelings associated with an impending period. These symptoms can occur even when your period is delayed, as your body may still be experiencing hormonal changes typical of the luteal phase of your cycle.

In summary, while the possibility of pregnancy cannot be entirely ruled out without further testing, it seems more likely that your missed period is due to irregularities in your menstrual cycle, potentially influenced by stress and other lifestyle factors. If your period does not arrive soon, or if you continue to experience discomfort or other concerning symptoms, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can offer more personalized insights and may suggest further evaluation to rule out any underlying conditions that could be affecting your menstrual health.

In conclusion, while it’s natural to feel anxious about missed periods, understanding the factors that contribute to menstrual irregularities can help alleviate some of that stress. Keeping track of your cycle, noting any significant changes in your lifestyle, and seeking medical advice when necessary can empower you to take control of your reproductive health.
