Urinary secretion?
Hello Doctor: I have noticed that after I urinate and sit down, a little urine drips, and then there is a wet spot on my underwear along with some white powdery substance.
However, I have also observed that if I wait a longer time before going to the bathroom, these white substances disappear.
I am asking this because I check for nocturnal emissions every morning, and I am quite sure there are none, yet I still see this white powdery substance when I urinate.
Is this a secretion that is "exclusive" to males? If I do not change my underwear, could it cause someone to become pregnant? Thank you.

Hello: It may be advisable to conduct a urine test to check for normalcy.
As for nocturnal emissions, it is unlikely to result in pregnancy.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to urinary health, many men experience concerns regarding post-urination dribbling and the presence of white residue in their underwear. Let's break down these issues and provide a comprehensive understanding.
Understanding Post-Urinating Drip
Post-urination dribbling is a common phenomenon among men. It occurs when a small amount of urine remains in the urethra after urination, leading to dripping when one stands up or sits down. This can be due to several factors, including:
1. Anatomical Factors: The male urethra is longer than that of females, and its anatomy can sometimes lead to residual urine.
2. Weak Pelvic Floor Muscles: If the pelvic floor muscles are weak, they may not effectively close off the urethra after urination.
3. Prostate Issues: Conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can contribute to urinary retention and dribbling.
The White Residue
The white powdery substance you notice in your underwear after urination could be due to several reasons:
1. Semen Residue: If you have had sexual activity, even if you believe you did not ejaculate, some residual semen may be present.
2. Smegma: This is a combination of dead skin cells, oils, and other bodily secretions that can accumulate under the foreskin or around the glans of the penis. It is important to maintain proper hygiene to prevent smegma buildup.
3. Urinary Crystals: In some cases, certain substances in urine can crystallize, leading to a white residue.
Is It Normal?
Experiencing a small amount of white residue after urination can be normal, especially if it is infrequent and not accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, burning, or a strong odor. However, if the residue is persistent or if you notice other symptoms, it may be wise to consult a healthcare professional.
Concerns About Pregnancy
Regarding your concern about whether not changing your underwear could lead to someone becoming pregnant, it is highly unlikely. Pregnancy occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, and the conditions for this to happen require direct contact with the female reproductive system. The white residue you are observing is unlikely to contain viable sperm, especially if it is just a small amount of dried secretion. However, maintaining good hygiene is essential for overall health and to prevent any potential infections.
Recommendations
1. Hygiene: Regularly wash the genital area to prevent the buildup of smegma and other residues. If you are uncircumcised, ensure that you clean under the foreskin.
2. Pelvic Floor Exercises: Consider doing Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which can help reduce post-urination dribbling.
3. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help dilute your urine, which may reduce the concentration of any residues.
4. Consult a Doctor: If you notice persistent symptoms, such as pain, burning during urination, or significant changes in your urinary habits, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare professional can perform necessary tests to rule out any underlying conditions.
In conclusion, while post-urination dribbling and the presence of white residue can be common and often benign, it is essential to pay attention to your body and maintain good hygiene practices. If you have any concerns or if symptoms persist, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.
