Hardening of the testicles?
Hello doctor, about a month ago, I experienced severe pain in my left testicle upon waking up, but it subsided within ten minutes.
On the first day, there was even pain during urination, but I did not experience pain at other times.
By the third day, although there was no pain during urination, I still felt pain upon waking.
That weekend, I went to the emergency room, where the surgeon examined me and suggested it might be a mild torsion (since it wasn't very painful) and recommended that I see a urologist on Monday.
After the emergency visit, the pain gradually disappeared, and I did not see a urologist.
However, in the past two weeks, I have noticed a constant dull heaviness in my left testicle (with slight pain during masturbation).
In recent days, I have felt that the left testicle is noticeably harder but still elastic, and aside from the heaviness and hardness, it is similar to the right side in size.
Due to my previous experience, I have been thinking it was simply torsion that resolved on its own.
I have not felt any lumps or masses, just the hardness of the testicle.
Could this possibly be testicular cancer?

When it comes to testicular health, any changes in the texture, size, or sensation of the testicles should be taken seriously. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced a series of symptoms that warrant further investigation.
Initially, the severe pain you experienced upon waking, which subsided within ten minutes, could suggest a transient issue such as testicular torsion, which is a medical emergency. However, since the pain resolved and you did not experience significant discomfort afterward, it is possible that the torsion was mild or self-resolving. The fact that you did not seek further evaluation from a urologist after the emergency visit may have left some underlying issues unaddressed.
The subsequent symptoms you describe—persistent feelings of heaviness or pressure in the left testicle, mild pain during masturbation, and the notable change in hardness—are concerning. While the left testicle feeling "hard" but still elastic may not immediately suggest cancer, it is essential to consider that testicular cancer can present with changes in the texture or firmness of the testicle.
Testicular cancer typically presents as a lump or mass in the testicle, but it can also manifest as a change in the testicle's consistency. The absence of a distinct lump does not rule out the possibility of cancer, especially if there is a noticeable change in hardness. Other potential causes for your symptoms could include epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis), orchitis (inflammation of the testicle), or a hydrocele (fluid accumulation around the testicle).
Given your symptoms, it is crucial to consult a urologist for a thorough examination. The urologist may perform a physical examination, ultrasound imaging, and possibly blood tests to check for tumor markers associated with testicular cancer. Early detection is key in managing testicular cancer effectively, and the prognosis is generally very good when caught early.
In summary, while your symptoms may not definitively indicate testicular cancer, the changes you have observed in your left testicle, combined with your previous pain, warrant a professional evaluation. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to potential malignancies. Please schedule an appointment with a urologist as soon as possible to address your concerns and receive appropriate care.
