Sneezing after diagnosis?

Hello, I would like to consult a doctor.
I was diagnosed with COVID-19 for the second time during the New Year.
I took cold medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and I no longer have yellow phlegm or a sore throat.
However, after sneezing quite forcefully, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my chest, although I don't feel it now.
I would like to know if sneezing too hard can cause pain.
Could this lead to a pneumothorax or something similar? Under what circumstances should I see an internist or get a chest X-ray? After my first diagnosis, I had a chest X-ray two months later, and it showed no issues.
I would appreciate the doctor's advice.
Thank you.

1.
After a typical COVID-19 infection, a dry cough and decreased appetite may persist for one to two weeks, gradually improving over time.

2.
If the cough and chest pain continue, or if there is hemoptysis, it is advisable to visit a healthcare facility to check for possible secondary bacterial infections or pneumothorax.

Sneezing too hard can indeed lead to chest pain, especially after recovering from COVID-19. When you sneeze, your body undergoes a rapid contraction of the chest muscles and diaphragm, which can sometimes cause discomfort or pain in the chest area. This is particularly true if the sneeze is forceful, as it can strain the muscles in your chest or even lead to minor injuries in the rib cage area.
After a COVID-19 infection, your respiratory system may still be sensitive, and any sudden movements, including sneezing, could exacerbate any lingering discomfort. It's also worth noting that COVID-19 can lead to inflammation in the lungs and surrounding tissues, which might make your chest more susceptible to pain from activities like sneezing or coughing.

In terms of your concern about pneumothorax (collapsed lung), it is relatively rare and usually occurs due to trauma or underlying lung disease. If you have not experienced any significant trauma and your previous chest X-ray was normal, the likelihood of developing a pneumothorax from sneezing is low. However, if you experience persistent chest pain, shortness of breath, or any other concerning symptoms, it would be prudent to seek medical attention.

As for when to see a doctor or get a chest X-ray, consider the following guidelines:
1. Persistent Symptoms: If you experience chest pain that lasts for more than a few minutes or recurs frequently, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.

2. Shortness of Breath: If you find it difficult to breathe or feel like you cannot catch your breath, seek medical attention immediately.

3. Other Symptoms: If you experience symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, or fainting, these could indicate a more serious issue that requires prompt evaluation.

4. Post-COVID Symptoms: Given your history of COVID-19, if you notice any new or worsening respiratory symptoms, it’s wise to discuss these with your doctor, as they may want to perform a follow-up evaluation to rule out any complications.

5. Previous Conditions: If you have any pre-existing lung conditions or other health issues, you should be more vigilant about any new symptoms and consult your healthcare provider accordingly.

In summary, while sneezing hard can cause temporary chest pain, it is usually not a cause for alarm unless accompanied by other concerning symptoms. If you have any doubts or if your symptoms persist, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and consult with a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation.
