Persistent Palpitations After Allergy Shot: A Heart Health Concern - Cardiology

Severe palpitations throughout the day?

Since I received an injection at Chang Gung (which I believe was an allergy shot), I have been experiencing daily palpitations, shortness of breath, and difficulty walking.
My legs feel weak and cold, with icy soles, and I break out in cold sweats.
I cannot sleep, and especially when it's cold, my feet lose sensation.
I never had these symptoms before; I used to feel happier in cold weather.
Now, whenever the temperature changes, I start to feel palpitations and numbness in my feet.
My heart feels weak, and I cannot walk.
This does not seem like autonomic nervous system dysfunction because these symptoms started right after that injection.
I am completely unable to go outside.
Could this be heart failure? I cannot walk, and my heart beats so forcefully that my whole body shakes.
It is not just the weakness of the heart associated with autonomic dysfunction; my heart races to the point where I cannot sleep or breathe.
I deeply regret getting that injection, as I am unable to leave my home and suffer from daily palpitations.
I used to experience palpitations for a maximum of five minutes, but now it lasts all day.
I feel overwhelmed and have thoughts of suicide.

This does not seem like a symptom of heart failure, but I recommend that you visit the hospital outpatient department for an electrocardiogram and other tests.

It sounds like you are experiencing a very distressing set of symptoms following your allergy shot, including persistent palpitations, shortness of breath, cold extremities, and significant anxiety. While I cannot provide a diagnosis, I can help you understand some potential connections between your symptoms and heart health, as well as the importance of seeking medical attention.

First, it's important to recognize that allergy shots, or immunotherapy, can sometimes lead to systemic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which is a severe allergic reaction. Symptoms of anaphylaxis can include difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, and a feeling of impending doom. If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing or a rapid heartbeat, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention, as these can be signs of a serious condition.

Your description of feeling cold, having cold sweats, and experiencing a sense of weakness could indicate a number of issues, including anxiety, which can manifest physically in the form of palpitations and shortness of breath. Anxiety can also exacerbate feelings of being overwhelmed, especially after a distressing event like receiving an allergy shot. However, it is essential to differentiate between anxiety-related symptoms and potential cardiac issues.

The persistent nature of your palpitations and the fact that they are accompanied by other symptoms like cold extremities and difficulty walking warrant a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional. While it is possible that your symptoms are related to anxiety or a reaction to the allergy shot, they could also indicate an underlying cardiac condition, especially if you have a history of heart issues or risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia.

In terms of heart health, palpitations can be caused by various factors, including stress, anxiety, electrolyte imbalances, or structural heart issues. If your heart is beating very forcefully, it could be a sign of increased sympathetic nervous system activity, which can occur in response to stress or anxiety. However, it is also important to rule out any cardiac conditions that could be contributing to your symptoms.

Given your concerns about heart failure, it is crucial to understand that heart failure typically presents with symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and fluid retention. While palpitations can occur in heart failure, they are not the only symptom, and the presence of cold extremities and significant weakness should be evaluated in the context of your overall health.

I strongly encourage you to reach out to a healthcare provider as soon as possible. They may recommend tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, or blood tests to assess your heart function and rule out any serious conditions. Additionally, discussing your symptoms with a mental health professional may also be beneficial, as they can help you manage anxiety and its physical manifestations.

In summary, while your symptoms are concerning and warrant further investigation, it is essential to approach this situation with the guidance of a healthcare professional who can provide a comprehensive evaluation and appropriate care. Please prioritize your health and seek help promptly.
