Left upper abdominal pain issues?

Hello Doctor, I am #206452.
This morning I discovered that the area of tenderness is likely just above the left side of my navel, approximately 4x4 cm in size, which is somewhat tender (the area above the navel on the left side when facing forward).
The center point of this 4x4 area is a bit more painful.
I would like to ask if this could be a muscle strain or something similar? (It seems to hurt a bit more this morning, which is why I can pinpoint the location more clearly.) Is the fact that I can press on a specific painful spot indicative of a muscle strain? Additionally, you mentioned that I should get a stool test for occult blood, but I think I have a slight external hemorrhoid.
I haven't seen blood in my stool, but there are a few blood spots when I wipe.
Should I still go for the test? Thank you for your help!

Observation or warm compresses can be applied first, and seek medical attention if necessary.
Stool samples can be collected only when there is no bleeding from external hemorrhoids.

Left upper abdominal pain can be a complex issue, as it may arise from various underlying conditions affecting different organs in that region. Based on your description, the pain is localized to a specific area just above the navel on the left side, and you are experiencing tenderness upon palpation. This could indeed suggest a muscular issue, such as a muscle strain or sprain, especially if the pain worsens with movement or certain positions. However, it is essential to consider other potential causes as well.

Muscle strains can occur due to overexertion, awkward movements, or even prolonged poor posture. If you have engaged in any physical activities that might have led to a strain, this could explain the localized pain. The fact that you can pinpoint the pain to a specific area and that it has become more pronounced may support this theory. However, it is crucial to rule out other causes, especially if the pain persists or worsens.

In the left upper quadrant, several organs could be involved, including the stomach, spleen, pancreas, and parts of the intestines. Conditions such as gastritis, splenic issues (like splenic infarction or rupture), or even pancreatitis could present with similar symptoms. Given that you mentioned tenderness in the area, it might be prudent to consider an evaluation by a healthcare professional to rule out these conditions.

Regarding your concern about the stool occult blood test, it is essential to understand that the presence of blood in the stool can indicate various gastrointestinal issues, ranging from benign conditions like hemorrhoids to more serious conditions like gastrointestinal bleeding. The fact that you have noticed some blood when wiping could suggest that your external hemorrhoids are the source of the bleeding, especially if there is no blood in your stool. However, it is still advisable to follow through with the stool test, as it can provide valuable information about your gastrointestinal health. If there is any suspicion of internal bleeding, this test can help identify it early.

In summary, while your symptoms may suggest a muscular issue, it is crucial to consider other potential causes of left upper abdominal pain. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare provider, including a physical examination and possibly imaging studies, may be necessary to determine the exact cause of your pain. Additionally, it is advisable to proceed with the stool occult blood test to ensure that there are no underlying gastrointestinal issues that require attention. If you experience any worsening symptoms, such as increased pain, fever, or changes in bowel habits, seek medical attention promptly.
