Am I Pregnant? Risks of Non-Penetrative Sex - Obstetrics and Gynecology

Can I get pregnant?

Hello doctor, my boyfriend and I usually engage in manual stimulation, where he inserts his fingers into my vagina, and sometimes I help him with manual stimulation as well.
We have never had direct genital contact without clothes.
About two to three months ago, he would press against me through my underwear, which made me a bit anxious, but he assured me there was no moisture, and I had my period during those two months.
Last month, he only used his hand on me, and I think I was under too much stress, which caused my period to be delayed by seven days (when it came, it lasted for eight days with regular bleeding, no spotting).
After my period, we have only engaged in manual stimulation three times (with him helping me), but my period is now five days late.
Although I have been feeling like my period is coming and I have increased vaginal discharge, I am still very anxious.
Is there a possibility that I could be pregnant?

Hello, the likelihood of pregnancy should be low.
If your period does not arrive in another week, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

When it comes to understanding the risks of pregnancy from non-penetrative sexual activities, it's important to clarify a few key points. Based on the information you've provided, it seems that you and your boyfriend have engaged in activities that do not involve direct genital-to-genital contact, which significantly reduces the likelihood of pregnancy.

Firstly, pregnancy typically occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, which usually happens through vaginal intercourse where ejaculation occurs inside the vagina. In your case, you mentioned that there has been no direct contact between your boyfriend's genitals and yours, and that he has not ejaculated near your vaginal opening. This is a crucial factor because sperm needs to be deposited in or very near the vagina for there to be a risk of pregnancy.

You also mentioned that your boyfriend has used his hands for stimulation, and while it is theoretically possible for sperm to be transferred from his hands to your vagina, the likelihood of this happening in a way that would lead to pregnancy is extremely low, especially if he did not ejaculate beforehand. Additionally, the fact that you have had regular menstrual cycles in the past few months is a strong indicator that you are not pregnant, as a missed period is often one of the first signs of pregnancy.

Regarding your concerns about your menstrual cycle, it's not uncommon for stress to affect your menstrual regularity. You mentioned that your period was delayed by seven days, which can happen due to various factors including stress, changes in routine, or hormonal fluctuations. The presence of increased vaginal discharge (leukorrhea) can also be a normal part of your menstrual cycle and does not necessarily indicate pregnancy.

If you are still feeling anxious about the possibility of being pregnant, the best course of action would be to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are generally very accurate when taken after a missed period. If the test is negative and your period does not arrive soon, it may be worth consulting with a healthcare provider to discuss your symptoms and any underlying issues that could be affecting your menstrual cycle.

In summary, based on the activities you've described, the risk of pregnancy appears to be very low. Engaging in non-penetrative sex, especially without ejaculation, significantly reduces the chances of conception. However, if you have ongoing concerns or if your menstrual cycle continues to be irregular, seeking advice from a healthcare professional would be beneficial. They can provide further insights and help alleviate any anxiety you may be experiencing regarding your sexual health and reproductive status.
