Post-operative issues after circumcision?

Hello, doctor.
It's been almost a year since I had a circumcision, and I noticed a very small, white grain-like bump in the glans sulcus area.
It becomes more prominent and larger during an erection, approximately the size of a grain of rice, and part of it seems to be attached to the skin.
I was completely covered before the circumcision, and I discovered this bump afterward.
I have no sexual experience and would like to know what this could be.
Is it harmful?

After circumcision, it is not uncommon for individuals to notice changes in the appearance of the glans (the head of the penis) and surrounding areas. The small white bump you describe, particularly located in the area of the glans, could be a few different things, and understanding these can help alleviate concerns.

1. Pearl-like Papules: One possibility is that what you are seeing are pearly penile papules. These are small, benign bumps that can appear around the corona (the ridge of the glans) and are quite common. They are not harmful and do not require treatment. They are a normal anatomical variant and are not associated with any disease or infection.

2. Sebaceous Glands: Another possibility is that these bumps could be sebaceous glands or cysts. These glands produce sebum, an oily substance that helps lubricate the skin. Sometimes, these glands can become more prominent or noticeable after circumcision due to the removal of the foreskin, which previously covered them.

3. Scar Tissue: After circumcision, scar tissue can form, which may also present as small bumps or irregularities on the skin. This is a normal part of the healing process, and unless it is causing discomfort or other symptoms, it is usually not a cause for concern.

4. Frenulum or Skin Tags: If the bump is somewhat attached to the skin, it could also be a skin tag or a remnant of the frenulum (the fold of tissue on the underside of the penis). These are generally harmless but can be removed if they become bothersome.

5. Infection or Other Conditions: While less likely, it is important to consider that any new growth or change in the skin could potentially indicate an infection or other dermatological condition. If the bump changes in size, color, or if you experience pain, discomfort, or any discharge, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.

In terms of potential harm, most of the conditions mentioned above are benign and pose no risk to your health. However, since you mentioned that the bump becomes more prominent during an erection, it may be worth discussing with a urologist or dermatologist. They can provide a thorough examination and, if necessary, perform a biopsy or other tests to rule out any serious conditions.

In conclusion, while it is understandable to have concerns after noticing changes post-circumcision, many of these bumps are normal and harmless. If you are still worried or if the bump changes in any way, seeking professional advice is always a good step to ensure peace of mind and proper health management.
