Poor physical stamina, easily fatigued?
Hello, I have had issues with poor physical stamina since childhood, frequently catching colds and getting sick.
Although I am somewhat better now, my health has affected my ability to work, and I often fell asleep in class during my studies.
Additionally, when I consume rich foods, I experience increased heat in my body, leading to red rashes on my face (seborrheic dermatitis).
Currently, I am taking traditional Chinese medicine, which has improved the rashes significantly, but my physical fitness is still lacking.
Could you please advise me on how to improve this? Thank you for your help.

Dr. Ding Hanxiang reply Traditional Chinese Medicine
Hello: Your current constitution is influenced by both genetic inheritance and postnatal nurturing and environment.
Based on your description, having a weak constitution and frequently catching colds from a young age may indicate a congenital weakness in your immune system.
The increased heat in your body after taking tonics could be due to inappropriate supplementation, as the human body can experience not only Qi deficiency and blood deficiency but also Yin deficiency and Yang deficiency.
It is essential to consult a licensed Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner for proper diagnosis and to take the appropriate herbal remedies to achieve therapeutic effects without side effects.
I recommend that you seek comprehensive treatment from the TCM physician currently managing your skin condition.
However, since you have experienced these issues since childhood, the adjustment period may be longer.
Additionally, in conjunction with medication, it is important to maintain a balanced diet and regular lifestyle habits, including developing an exercise routine.
Sincerely, Dr.
Ding Han-Hsiang, Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Improving energy levels and managing fatigue through Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be a holistic approach that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of health. Based on your description, it seems that you have been struggling with low energy and frequent illnesses since childhood. This could be attributed to a combination of factors, including a weak constitution, dietary habits, and possibly underlying imbalances in your body's energy (Qi), blood, and other vital substances.
In TCM, the concept of Qi is central to understanding health. Qi is considered the vital life force that flows through the body, and its deficiency can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and susceptibility to illness. Additionally, TCM recognizes different types of deficiencies, such as Qi deficiency, blood deficiency, and Yin deficiency, each requiring specific treatment approaches.
1. Dietary Adjustments: Since you mentioned that consuming certain nourishing foods leads to increased "heat" in your body, which manifests as skin rashes, it is essential to focus on a balanced diet that supports your constitution without aggravating your symptoms. Foods that are considered cooling and nourishing, such as leafy greens, fruits, and whole grains, can be beneficial. Avoid overly spicy, greasy, or rich foods that may contribute to heat and inflammation.
2. Herbal Remedies: It is crucial to work with a qualified TCM practitioner who can tailor herbal formulas to your specific needs. Common herbs used to boost energy and improve vitality include Ginseng (Ren Shen), Astragalus (Huang Qi), and Licorice Root (Gan Cao). These herbs can help tonify Qi and strengthen the immune system. However, since you have experienced adverse reactions to certain supplements, it is vital to communicate these concerns with your practitioner so they can adjust the treatment accordingly.
3. Lifestyle Modifications: Incorporating regular physical activity into your routine can significantly enhance your energy levels. Gentle exercises such as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or even brisk walking can help stimulate the flow of Qi and improve circulation. Additionally, establishing a consistent sleep schedule and ensuring you get adequate rest is essential for recovery and energy replenishment.
4. Stress Management: Emotional well-being is also a critical component of energy levels. Practices such as meditation, mindfulness, or even simple breathing exercises can help reduce stress and promote relaxation, which in turn can improve your overall vitality.
5. Regular Check-ups: Since you have a history of health issues, regular consultations with your TCM practitioner can help monitor your progress and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. This ongoing support can be invaluable in managing your energy levels and overall health.
6. Patience and Consistency: Improving energy levels and managing fatigue is often a gradual process, especially when addressing long-standing issues. It is essential to be patient and consistent with your treatment and lifestyle changes.
In conclusion, addressing low energy levels and fatigue through TCM involves a comprehensive approach that includes dietary adjustments, herbal remedies, lifestyle modifications, and stress management techniques. By working closely with a qualified TCM practitioner and making mindful changes to your daily routine, you can gradually improve your energy levels and overall well-being. Remember, every individual's body is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another, so personalized care is key.
