Red spots on the foreskin????
Hello, Dr.
Liu: I am currently in the ninth grade.
However, I have noticed red spots on my foreskin since I was a child.
I have never engaged in sexual intercourse, so I am unsure why these red spots have appeared.
I don't think it is hereditary...
I have heard of a sexually transmitted infection that also causes red spots, but I forgot the name.
It can disappear and then reappear after a long time, spreading throughout the body.
I am not sure what this disease is called.
I initially suspected that my condition might be similar, but my red spots have never disappeared.
I wonder if ignoring them will lead to any issues when I grow up, such as transmitting anything to others.
This situation is really confusing for me.
Doctor, please help me with my questions.
Thank you.
^^

Ha! You're overthinking it.
Since you've had this since childhood, it's unlikely to be a "sexually transmitted infection." Please ask your dad to take you to the hospital to see a urologist!

More Info
Hello! It's great that you're reaching out for information about the red spots on your foreskin. Understanding the causes and implications of such symptoms is important for your health and well-being.
Firstly, red spots on the foreskin can arise from various causes, and it's essential to differentiate between them to determine if any treatment is necessary. Common causes of red spots or lesions in that area include:
1. Irritation or Allergic Reactions: Sometimes, the skin can react to soaps, detergents, or personal care products, leading to irritation and redness. This is often accompanied by itching or discomfort.
2. Infections: Certain infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes or genital warts, can cause red spots or lesions. However, since you mentioned that you have not engaged in sexual activity, the likelihood of an STI is lower, but not entirely ruled out, especially if there has been any form of sexual contact.
3. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear on the penis and are often mistaken for something concerning. They are normal anatomical variations and do not require treatment.
4. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis and are also normal sebaceous glands that are not harmful.
5. Dermatological Conditions: Conditions like eczema or psoriasis can also manifest as red spots or patches on the skin, including the genital area.
Regarding your concern about a specific disease that causes red spots and can spread, you might be thinking of conditions like syphilis or herpes, which can present with lesions. However, these typically have other accompanying symptoms, such as sores, pain, or systemic symptoms (like fever). Since your spots have not disappeared or changed significantly over time, it is less likely to be an acute infectious process.
It's understandable to feel anxious about these symptoms, especially with the fear of potential transmission to others. However, if the spots have been consistent and have not changed, they may not pose a risk of contagion. That said, it is always best to consult with a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis.
If you choose to ignore the spots, it may not lead to immediate issues, but it is advisable to have them evaluated, especially as you grow older. Changes in your body can occur, and having a baseline understanding of your health is crucial. A healthcare provider can offer reassurance, perform necessary tests, and provide treatment options if needed.
In summary, while there are various benign explanations for red spots on the foreskin, it is essential to seek a professional evaluation to rule out any serious conditions and to gain peace of mind. Don't hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider, as they can provide personalized advice and support based on your specific situation. Thank you for your question, and take care!
