Topical ointment treatment for warts?
I have asked several doctors and learned that there are two topical treatments for genital warts: Condylox (also known as Podofilox) and Aldara (Imiquimod).
I would like to ask the doctor, which hospital in Hualien currently has Aldara available? Also, what are the differences in effectiveness and usage between these two treatments? Thank you, doctor.

You can consult Dr.
Liu Shih-Hsun at Cathay United Clinic's dermatology department.
The active ingredient in Wart Remover is an older medication that has proven effective based on past experiences, although it may cause some irritation when applied to mucous membranes.
LedaMei is an immunomodulatory drug with a different mechanism of action, and it is also quite effective.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to treating warts, particularly genital warts (also known as condylomata acuminata), two popular topical treatments are Podophyllotoxin (often referred to as "化疣敵") and Imiquimod (commonly known as "樂得美"). Both of these medications are effective, but they work in different ways and have distinct usage guidelines.
Podophyllotoxin is a plant-derived compound that acts as a cytotoxic agent. It works by inhibiting the growth of the wart tissue and causing the wart cells to die. This medication is typically applied directly to the wart, usually twice a week for a few weeks, depending on the specific instructions provided by a healthcare provider. Podophyllotoxin is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause local irritation, redness, or discomfort at the application site.
Imiquimod, on the other hand, is an immune response modifier. It stimulates the body’s immune system to fight the virus that causes the warts. This medication is usually applied once daily, three times a week, for up to 16 weeks. Imiquimod can also cause local reactions, including redness, swelling, and peeling of the skin. However, it may be preferred for patients who have multiple warts or larger lesions, as it can treat the surrounding areas as well.
In terms of effectiveness, both treatments have been shown to be effective in clinical studies, but the choice between them may depend on various factors, including the number and size of warts, patient preference, and tolerance of side effects. Some patients may respond better to one treatment over the other, so it may take some trial and error to find the most effective option.
Regarding your inquiry about where to find "樂得美" (Imiquimod) in Hualien, it is best to consult local pharmacies or hospitals directly. Many hospitals with dermatology departments should carry this medication, but availability can vary. You might also consider reaching out to a dermatologist in Hualien who can provide you with the most accurate information regarding the availability of these treatments and possibly prescribe them if necessary.
In summary, both Podophyllotoxin and Imiquimod are effective treatments for warts, but they function differently and have different application regimens. It is essential to follow the guidance of a healthcare provider when using these medications to ensure the best possible outcome and to minimize side effects. If you have further questions or concerns, don't hesitate to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide personalized advice based on your specific situation.
