Bleeding occurs less than two weeks after the menstrual period?

Hello Doctor: I am a girl who just turned twenty.
My recent menstrual periods were on January 13, February 17, and March 27.
I finished my period on April 2.
I have one sexual partner and have not had any previous experiences.
My menstrual cycles have been regular in recent years (occurring once a month), but for some unknown reason, I experienced bleeding that resembled menstruation again on April 12.
There is no pain associated with this bleeding, which is red and has a volume similar to my regular period, and it has continued for five days now.
Around April 10, I had symptoms of a cold, including a sore throat and fever.
On the 11th, I purchased over-the-counter medication called Feng Gan Ke (not sure if this is related).
I am concerned that there may be something unclean in my uterus or other issues.
Please advise me.
Thank you!

There are many causes of abnormal vaginal bleeding, including medications and colds.
The most common cause is hormonal imbalance, but other potential causes include uterine fibroids, ovarian tumors, and cervical erosion.
It is advisable for you to schedule an appointment at a hospital for an examination to ensure peace of mind.

Abnormal bleeding after menstruation, also known as intermenstrual bleeding, can be concerning, especially for young women who have recently become sexually active. In your case, the occurrence of bleeding on April 12, which is not part of your regular menstrual cycle, raises several questions regarding its potential causes and implications.

Firstly, it is important to understand that intermenstrual bleeding can occur for various reasons. Some common causes include hormonal imbalances, which can be influenced by factors such as stress, changes in weight, or even illness. Given that you experienced a cold and throat pain around the time of the bleeding, it is possible that your body’s response to illness could have affected your hormonal levels, leading to unexpected bleeding.

Another potential cause could be related to your recent sexual activity. Engaging in sexual intercourse can sometimes lead to minor trauma or irritation of the cervix, which may result in light bleeding. However, if the bleeding is heavy and persistent, it is essential to consider other possibilities, such as infections (like sexually transmitted infections), polyps, or even more serious conditions like fibroids or endometrial issues.

The fact that the bleeding is bright red and has persisted for five days is noteworthy. Normal menstrual bleeding typically lasts between three to seven days, but if you are experiencing a similar volume of blood as during your regular period, this could indicate a need for further evaluation. It is also important to note that the use of over-the-counter medications, such as the one you mentioned (風感克), typically does not cause abnormal bleeding, but if you have any concerns about interactions or side effects, it is best to consult with a healthcare professional.

In terms of your worries about having "unclean" material in the uterus, this is a common concern among women. Conditions such as retained products of conception can occur after a miscarriage or abortion, but if you have not experienced any recent pregnancy loss, this is less likely to be the cause. However, it is crucial to have a healthcare provider evaluate your symptoms to rule out any serious conditions.

Given your situation, I strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider, preferably a gynecologist. They can perform a thorough examination, which may include a pelvic exam, ultrasound, or blood tests to assess hormone levels and check for any underlying issues. It is essential to address any abnormal bleeding, especially if it is accompanied by other symptoms or if it persists.

In summary, while there are several potential causes for your abnormal bleeding, it is crucial to seek medical advice to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. Early intervention can help address any underlying issues and provide peace of mind. Remember, your health is paramount, and it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to unusual symptoms.
